INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

@Mother2Hens
What an awesome and heartwarming story (well, except for the building fire)!

I treated a cat for smoke inhalation when I was still in vet school.  The poor people lived in a camper (not a fancy one--a truck with a camper top) and loved their two cats.  They returned from an errand to find the camper on fire.  Neither cat appeared when they called.  After the fire was put out, they found one low on the floor under the "bed," and it was actually OK.  The other one got on top of shelves, and breathed in a lot of smoke.  They couldn't afford hardly anything, so the resident and I who were on emergency duty barely charged them anything except the exam fee, even though we had their kitty on oxygen for an hour (which would have cost a LOT).  He improved significantly over that hour, so we sent him home.  Again, they couldn't afford to hospitalize him even one night, which we would have preferred.  They promised to come back if he relapsed.  A week later, we received a very sweet thank you note from them that he was doing fine, and how much they appreciated our kindness.  Yes, we screwed the vet hospital out of at least $200, but sometimes you just do what you gotta do.  These people lost their home, such as it was.  I was just glad I was working with an equally compassionate resident who was not a stickler for "the rules."

And I'm not surprised that the brothers remembered each other!  Cats' memories are underestimated by people.  Red tabbies (orange tabbies) are the best.  My sister just adopted a red tabby kitten for her daughter.  His name is Ziggy.

Kittydoc are you a Boiler?

I had two orange tabbys growing up. Just lost the second one at the beginning if the summer, he was 16. I was impressed he out lived his brother by 3 years those two were inseparable.

yea I think he is too big to ship... lol. DH just said he drives to bowling green KY and wants to know how close  that is too you? lol
He wants Cochins  anyway, but now he says he wants that kind of Cochin... lol

Well that is 4 hours away from me. Darn!!! Well maybe once Panther starts laying, I can send eggs or chicks. Not sure how but I could figure it out.

As some of you all know, I just ordered my 1st batch of chicks from Ideal. I paid for 10 Pullet "Suprise Special". Well THEY CAME IN TODAY!! Woot!! Since I had to work, I had a friend pick them up from the post office for me, bring them home and told her what to do. Everything was set up for her and I explained to her about watching them, feeding and watering... and so on.... Everything went better then I expected cause when I got home not only was my 10 pullets running around, chirping, drinking, eating and sleeping, but when I looked into the brooder... there wasn't 10 there.... there was 15!!! OMG!!! I am sure I now have 5 roosters... I didn't want any and was expecting to get perhaps 1 - but 5???? YIKES... that is too many for 10 hens. But none the less, they are all healthy, cute and doing well!!

Ideal did not inform me of what they sent... so I took some photos in hopes that you all could help me in identifying what I could possibly have (if able at this age)?

I have 9 of the Yellows, 1 of the Browns & 5 of the Blacks. Can you all tell what these little guys are... and don't be silly and say Chickens.... I know that much :)

Thanks in advance :)

They are cute :love. Sorry I can not be of help on the breeds, this is my first year with chickens.

lol cute, My Romeo fell in the dog pool and was throwing a fit, by the time I got to him he was swimming and I think he must have liked it cause he now gets in all the time. worries me so I go outside and wait till he gets done.. lol need a pic but I always freak out and that leads to not thinking about the camera.
BTW I am getting 2 of his keets this weekend, thanks again for the hook up.

Yes, we all need to see pics of that! I am picturing it in my head and cracking up right now. Glad you are getting some Keats too! They are really cute. Mine still has blue eyes and I just don't want them to change colors!

I still have this little lady available. If she doesn't find a home, she'll likely be soup soon. She doesn't have a lot of meat on those bones so it will be very sparse soup.

1 yo on labor day weekend.
1/2 Swedish Flower Hen 1/2 BA
Laying a pullet sized egg almost daily

Her papa is in the background here.

I would so give he a home but if I remember right you are a ways away from me?

This is great. I had been to the page before but this is so much better organized now with even more info. Just another lesson, keep checking back as we are improving as we grow.
Thank you for checking it out! Appreciate the feedback :)
Lol! Especially when he shakes his head and all his 'spiked' feathers get spread out. Too bad about the honey, but an adorable result....
I just love watching them all wet! Glad you enjoyed too!
