INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I think we have mentioned using baby monitors with the video to help monitor the coops in freezing weather. I really like the idea but I'm waiting another year for the prices to drop just a bit more.
But if some one else is interested there is a sale going on at Baby R Us and I have a 20% off 1 item. The deal is a free video monitor ($100 version) if you spend over $200 and there are several other fancier video monitors with multiple cameras that cost enough even after the coupon to get you to the $200 value.

The sale and coupon are good until 9/13. If anyone is interested, I'm sure there is a way to get you the coupon before then.

@bradselig @racinchickins @jchny2000 @Little Ameraucana Mom I'm listing these posters as I know they have lots of coops and might find this kind of a thing interesting. I'm also sure that Babies R Us is not marketing to chicken breeders yet.

And lastly maybe @hoosiercheetah can come to my house some time and set me up with a fancy set of cameras to watch the coops and property for less than the fancy baby monitors. I think he has posted about it here too.

We got ours at Best Buy. A bit pricey, but it's wireless and recordable and has night vision.

Here is side profile pics of Rocky and some pics of my Marans chicks. One of them had an accident yesterday and hung itself overnight

I removed the wire gate it got it's head stuck in.
I am also worried we are going to lose another one. I have been treating for coccidia for 3 days now. Something is not right with the way his eyes look. Any ideas?

Anyone know what this chick is? It came from a black copper Marans hatching egg. I am guessing a BR and Marans mix.
I'm sorry about your chick. :( I couldn't tell you what the other ones issue is. The eyes look a little strange, but the picture makes it a bit hard to tell. As far as Rocky goes, I'm still leaning pullet, due to the comb shape and growth, but you could have a small combed cockerel. Give it another couple weeks.

Thank you

You probably don't want to hear about mine in Northern IN...

Sadly, that's too far. I'd love to co-buy with you otherwise!

I could do that, but I think a lot of places you can get the gear do free installs. I could probably find you the equipment for less money than in the stores, but then you'd have to install it yourself or talk someone into doing it. I have no idea what I'd have to charge for an installation - it would depend on how far away from me, and how long it took.

@Rhandi74
Is the one with the eyes acting "off". Standing by itself, puffed up, etc.? How is the appetite? Look at the eyes...do they seem "grayish" at all or just normal in color?

My three extra cockerels and four (red Sexlink) hens have a new home starting tomorrow! AND I'm getting mating pair of... Oh jeez I forgot the name of th breed... That's what two hours of sleep in 36 hrs does for you! Lol

He was sleeping and fluffing up but since the corid he is more active. He closes his eyes often and is sometimes left behind before he sees he has been left. He is still sleeping more then the others but that has improved. Every time I feed I see him eat and drink. I have been changing water more frequently due to the heat and he always drinks when I change the water. Here are some more pics.

Here are another chicks eyes

I am unsure of what color you would call his eyes. They defiantly do not look green anymore.

insect bites is my guess. A fly bite or gnat bite that maybe got a bit of an infection. Or even just the scab itself started attracting a few other bugs and almost overnight the fly and gnats can cause a good eye to swell shut. It might take a month or so to heal up where the eye is the right color. The eye lid shape may not go back to its original shape in my experience. As long as the other chicks are not picking on it, it should heal with time. But if the other chickens start pecking it will get worse and the injured chicken will slow the food intake and gradually shrink while starving.
