INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

who sells the Salmon Favs? I don't need more hatchery chicks right now but I am curious.

I was actually googling trying to find some local Salmon Favs last week. I'm not looking to add to my flock this year but I'd love to try this breed at some point (and don't want hatchery quality). I did not find any in my searches but hope there is someone local that has them.

That would be so much fun.  We could scare the hawks away together too like a bunch of nutty chicken people.

If it comes down to it, I could let them live with my goats until a permanent owner could be found.    The only issue with that is there is no net so they would need to learn free ranging rather fast.
Lol, I know I've got the crazy chicken lady covered :)

The cold nights are coming back. I had just moved all my birds around last week. Now I'm moving the turkeys and a couple roosters again. I'm hoping the roos get along tonight and tomorrow morning until I can let them out to free range. They were ok but not great today free ranging. The larger one is upset. He was a breeder till he got frostbite and started sleeping instead of mating. Sleeping is good for healing but not making the eggs fertile. Now he has no hens and is stuck being introduced to the other backup roos. Once he is feeling better and back to making he will get a few hens. I had a roo get frostbite last year but he kept right on mating. Not this year's guy.

As I hatch out chicks, a few of them will be black stars. Of those few black stars about half of those will be males. If anyone is interested in raising up a rooster or a set of roosters, please message me. As soon as a rooster hatches, I'll let you know. The black star roosters look much like a barred rock but the ones I have will be 50% heritage RIR meaning they will be large enough for a roast.

Speaking of chicks.

I know I posted this before but if anyone has plans to place an order for chicks I would really like to add a few to your order!! I want to add a Trio of Salmon Fav to my lonely hen!! I just love them and she's going on 5 years old and I don't ever want to be without them.

Please remember me if you do. Thanks

I placed an ideal poultry order to be shipped March 4. I know I'm not the closest to you, but im sure I can call and add them to it.

It's funny that thus is brought up as I've been thinking of adding salmon faverolles to my flick this year. I think I know of a local breeder. May have to hit her up!

Last fall I saw Little Giant came out with a new incubator with digital thermostat with humidity read out as well and bought one (I'm assuming to compete with Hovabator Genesis). It was just still air used for hatching. Well I stopped into local Big R and noticed they had the new fan kits for it. So of course I had to get it to try it out. I haven't out any eggs in it yet but the fan doesn't seem too strong which might be good for hatching. Overall I think I will like it for incubating but not for hatching. The temperature/humidity sensor hangs from the lid and sets on the floor. The chicks poop all over it. I'm gonna try to raise it and just have it hanging in the air instead. Overall though for a total of $70 plus tax for a digital forced air, I'm very happy with it. Much better price than the Genesis.

They are also available on incubator warehouse. I really don't want a styro hatcher but I have looked at them more than once.
Instead I'm currently looking for a non running wine cooler to make a homemade hatcher.

Yea I'm on the hunt for plastic liners for the bottom. It's amazon how dirty they can get. I'm looking at getting a sportsman and possibly a gqf brooder this year. Not sure what I'll do for a hatcher. Ideally I'd love to find a used one.
