INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

These are pics from several years ago--my first time hatching peas and one chick's feet were badly crippled.

So I built him orthopedic shoes.

And his toes straightened.

I named him Trooper because he was such a little trooper about the whole thing. He is a midnight black shoulder.

Awwww! You built him little shoes. Reminds me of Forest Gump, LOL

So pretty. I would love to have a peacock. They are pretty expensive arent they?

so question about crooked toes...so i just hatched those 16 birds and they all had straight toes...now magically a couple of them have toes that are now bent alittle like half way down the toe....weird...they were on papertowel for a bout a week and then pine shavings for the whole time now...any thoughts

@pipdzipdnreadytogo I don't know whether I'd want to breed Dorkings or not, but I find them interesting and might like to have a couple as flock art. I'm up to my elbows in roos right now, so only looking for a couple of pullets/young hens. What do you like/dislike about your Dorkings?
I love these girls. I haven't yet found anything about them that I dislike (well, except the two of the keep wanting to nest in the feed shed, but that's more a chicken thing than a Dorking thing, I think! :rant ). I love that they are so friendly and cuddly and sweet. They love lap time and neither will shy away from being held. They just let you walk over and scoop them up! :love They are very calm and easygoing, not spooked easily like my Leghorns and my Ancona. Hands down my favorite breed that I've owned. :) If production is a concern, they both lay a medium-large white egg pretty faithfully about 5 times a week, but they're just starting so I'm not sure if they'll keep up at this rate. They started laying a bit later than the more production-oriented breeds, around 7 months old if I remember right. They're pretty large girls, probably not Jersey Giant large, but as big as my Bielefelder and Wyandottes. They will be 9 months old in a couple days and they already have quite a good weight on them. I can't say what their exact weight is, but they are heavier than the Bielie of the same age!
Agreed!!! I just spent time outside giving the girls hot water in their crumbles...you would think they were eating candy! Hmmm I wonder what is candy to a chicken? Mealworms?
My girls are pretty serious about their scratch grains! That's what I usually refer to as candy for them. Meal worms gross me out, so I haven't tried them with my girls yet.

:love Absolutely gorgeous guy!

This, and if you're on mobile you have to switch it to desktop mode to see it. It should say "Your Forum Signature" in big red letters right above what you're looking for. :)

Scratch grains = Chicken crack

Have to say, my girls have never been all that impressed by or enthusiastic about meal worms, at least not the packaged/dry ones - haven't tried the "real" deal.
