INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

@3arrowfarm Welcome to the Indiana Thread! :welcome Please click on the links at the end of my post to find out about our members and our great Indiana thread! Are you new to chickens? [rule]@pipdzipdnreadytogo Before I had to have my Jersey Giant put to sleep a year ago, I had her in a dog kennel by my side of the bed. She always made the softest, sweetest conversational sounds. She never started talking until I woke up. I loved having her there for a few days (she had ovarian cancer). It sounds like Frou-Frou is feeling much better--and is trying to emphasize that  ! If she only knew how lucky she is to be indoors. From Evansville to Louisville, we're supposed to get 8-10" of snow mixed with freezing rain, so the Silkies and I will be snowed in Louisville for a few more days. [rule]I don't feel so weird for having chickens in the house after reading the post from @iamfivewire about having a roo in the house! haha But seriously, that's wonderful that you have taken such good care of the poor guy! [rule]@bradselig Hope the new door works out. It's so annoying when something arrives damaged, and you have to go through an ordeal to straighten things out. [rule]@chick rookie Your animals look wonderful as usual! Hang in there-- spring is around the corner. [rule]@kabhyper1 I'll have to talk to Bonbon about hatching some eggs! Nice photos! [rule]@ellymayRans Your vaccine story was scary! I bet you were freaking out. That's great that you were able to talk to a real person, much less a vet. We all do so many things when we aren't "present" -- we're on auto-pilot. Hope the chicks continue to thrive! You were just trying to help them. :hugs [rule]@ChickCrazed Speaking of help! You could seriously injure yourself by not asking for help. If your neighbor knows that you'll be happy to help them anytime, then you should help each other! Teamwork, I believe they call it. ;) [rule]
Yep new to chickens. Just bought a house last year and just getting my farm started. Chickens and Huge garden first, then hopefully turkey's and possibly pigs to follow

Frou-Frou does her little noises, too, but once she knows I'm awake, whether I'm bleary-eyed and wanting just a few more minutes or not, she is at full volume. Sounds like you're in for an icky couple days. :sick I haven't checked our forecast--still hoping for more spring-like weather! Has anyone else realized yet that we're less than 3 weeks away from the official first day of spring?!
Did I tell you I have colored Dorkings on order from Sand Hill? :celebrate So soon I will be a one stop shop for you! LOL. I know how you feel about Frou Frou. PeeWee, my Wheaten Maran girl (from BradSelig) has always been my favorite. She was the runt and was the one that was gender confused for a loooooonnnnngggg time. She is still small and super sassy. She just follows me around when I am out there and is such a doll. I can pick her up or pet her at any time and she just coos at me. She has never really thrived. She sleeps in a nest box by herself, her poop has always been sketchy and she doesn't move around or have as much energy as I'd like (I've tried worming her, dusting her and tried a couple of antibiotics. Nothing has helped). So I worry my time with her will be short. I will be super devastated when she goes. If the Marans weren't so broody I would fill my coop with them (and Bielies and Dorkings!)! PeeWee
Oh my goodness, grabby hands!! Can't wait to see how they turn out! I guess we've both got excellent taste in chicken breeds, eh? ;) Ah, PeeWee sounds like a sweetie. It's always the ones that need special care that steal your heart, isn't it? :love My Frou'f isn't as 'special needs' as she thinks she is, though.
pipdzip : i understand the "chicken alarm clock" & no snooze button on it - we've had our rooster living in the house since last july . his crowing still doeant sound quite right & only has use of one of his legs, but he somehow has survived after being chewed up bad from a dog. the grandkids love coming over to see our "house-rooster"
pipdz : heres a pic of gandalf - he is lonely - wish he could be outside, but is too cold - it will take a while when its warm enough to re-integrate with the other birds :

Handsome guy! And a lucky one, too, it sounds like! Hopefully we'll see spring sometime soon! :fl

Okay guys, I need toknow if I have any takers of my two 1 month old black cochin cockerels. The girl who is taking the females is coming on Saturday. I was going to ask her if she wanted all four (that includes the two boys). She can't have roos, but said she could find a home for them. I am more comfortable having them go to someone on here if possible. They are going to be gorgeous boys, and will have wonderful personalities. I need to know before Friday. These are the parents. If they are going to a pet home I will give them away. I just want them to be cared for.
The babies. They will be one month old on Saturday.

A pic of them from today, the two boys are on the left.

Such a nice pair of chickens. I can't offer a forever pet home though. I don't even promise that to my rooster chicks. But yours do look amazing.

I'm going to be listing some sumatra hatching eggs for the chicken fest auctions.  I don't ship or else I would offer the on the BST area.  The eggs I have are a blue roo over a set of blue hens.

I appreciate the offer! I've really got my hopes on some Russian Orlaff, paint silkies Naked Necks or maybe even Dominiques. I know two of them are fairly rare but ... maybe even some jersey giants but I'm on the fence about them.

My wish list isn't really that long..but I also have 2 that have been at the top of my list coming as chicks in March. Wheaton/Blue Wheaton AMs and Salmon Faverolles!! ;)

You must not allow me to purchase wheaten marans from you when they are available. One of us must have self control and it sure isn't me!!!!!!!
