INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I'm so sorry about your sweet Violet. I know she was one of your favorite girls. When you are ready for more Bielies let me know and I will hook you up. :hugs
:hugs Thank you, I really appreciate it.
Here is my silly little flock surpise. I hatched a few mixed flock eggs not too long ago and got her. I think she looks blue cream, but I don't have lavender in my flock, soooo, it's a mystery. :) As a chick and then today....
That is one of the prettiest chicks I've ever seen. :love You ought to get some gorgeous babies out of them!
LOL not me.....I'd get myself in a lot of trouble. I wish they had a mini Cabinet incubator....someone seriously needs to take that idea and run with it! Something that will hold more than 50 but fewer than HUNDREDS of eggs. I can't even imagine where I would put that many chicks.....seriously, how do you guys brood them?

I have been unable to even think aobut getting another CCLB. The loss is too fresh after a couple months. So the grief is completely understandable. Allow me to offer another caption for the first pic of Frou Frou, "Mommy, you look sad let me cheer you up!"
Aw, that's easy to understand! For me, Violet made such a good impression on me that I just fell in love with the breed. Bieles are probably right behind Dorkings as my favorite breed, such big sweethearts. :love Ah, she does have a way of cheering me up! When I found Violet's remains, I sat on my bed beside Frou-Frou's laundry basket pen in shock. Well, Frou came right over, honking away, and smushed her giant fluffy butt into the openings of her basket. What a goof! I do really love this bird. :love Edited to clarify

pipdzip : i understand the "chicken alarm clock" & no snooze button on it - we've had our rooster living in the house since last july . his crowing still doeant sound quite right & only has use of one of his legs, but he somehow has survived after being chewed up bad from a dog.
the grandkids love coming over to see our "house-rooster"

We had a Great Dane alarm clock for several years. That's a 145 lb alarm clock! She liked her breakfast early & would start howling as soon as she saw one of us move after sunrise. It never mattered if we closed the door. She could just sense it & then pounded on the bedroom door - while howling in hunger. Likewise at dinner, as soon as we took that last bite & stood up from the table, she'd start a dinnertime happiness-dance. Her giant tail was at table-clearing height, so the anticipatory tail-wagging could get dangerous & expensive if we took too long.

Hey all. Getting my chicks end of this week. RIR and White Rock. I'm outside Hillsboro
@3arrowfarm Welcome to the Indiana Thread!

Please click on the links at the end of my post to find out about our members and our great Indiana thread! Are you new to chickens?
@pipdzipdnreadytogo Before I had to have my Jersey Giant put to sleep a year ago, I had her in a dog kennel by my side of the bed. She always made the softest, sweetest conversational sounds. She never started talking until I woke up. I loved having her there for a few days (she had ovarian cancer). It sounds like Frou-Frou is feeling much better--and is trying to emphasize that

! If she only knew how lucky she is to be indoors. From Evansville to Louisville, we're supposed to get 8-10" of snow mixed with freezing rain, so the Silkies and I will be snowed in Louisville for a few more days.
I don't feel so weird for having chickens in the house after reading the post from @iamfivewire about having a roo in the house! haha But seriously, that's wonderful that you have taken such good care of the poor guy!

@bradselig Hope the new door works out. It's so annoying when something arrives damaged, and you have to go through an ordeal to straighten things out.
@chick rookie Your animals look wonderful as usual! Hang in there-- spring is around the corner.
@kabhyper1 I'll have to talk to Bonbon about hatching some eggs!
Nice photos!

@ellymayRans Your vaccine story was scary! I bet you were freaking out. That's great that you were able to talk to a real person, much less a vet. We all do so many things when we aren't "present" -- we're on auto-pilot. Hope the chicks continue to thrive! You were just trying to help them.

@ChickCrazed
Speaking of help! You could seriously injure yourself by not asking for help. If your neighbor knows that you'll be happy to help them anytime, then you should help each other! Teamwork, I believe they call it.

A bit of a surprise. Got my first Turkey eggs. I wasn't expecting any for about another month. Had to hurry up and put a nest together.
By putting a nest together, do you mean that the female turkey will sit on the eggs? Do you make a broody area for a turkey? Just curious.

Did I tell you I have colored Dorkings on order from Sand Hill?

So soon I will be a one stop shop for you! LOL. I know how you feel about Frou Frou. PeeWee, my Wheaten Maran girl (from BradSelig) has always been my favorite. She was the runt and was the one that was gender confused for a loooooonnnnngggg time. She is still small and super sassy. She just follows me around when I am out there and is such a doll. I can pick her up or pet her at any time and she just coos at me. She has never really thrived. She sleeps in a nest box by herself, her poop has always been sketchy and she doesn't move around or have as much energy as I'd like (I've tried worming her, dusting her and tried a couple of antibiotics. Nothing has helped). So I worry my time with her will be short. I will be super devastated when she goes. If the Marans weren't so broody I would fill my coop with them (and Bielies and Dorkings!)!
PeeWee and Ugga (Birchen Marans Pullets)!!!!

And for AMWChikin, here is an unfortunate looking younger Ozzie. LOL luckily his looks improved as he aged!

You're so lucky to be able to have such a variety of animals! Are you settled in the Terre Haute area now?

Feeling very lucky indeed! Still living with family, need to find a realtor for our house in La Porte. But other than that, getting to know the area better and it feels more like home. :)

I just adore your IB, and loved all your pics! Someday I hope to go to Dinkys!
What does IB stand for? We are for sure going this Friday, work is even letting me take off so we can get there before the auctions start! Guess we are going to try and get chicks, pigs and maybe even a goat. If we do, we'll really have a zoo! LOL

IB is for India Blue

I must say GQF has great customer service. I called them today about the damage. The corner of the door was crushed as well as the big dent in it. The back panel also was damaged but i wasn't concerned about that due to it being up against the wall and not noticeable. They are going to be sending me replacements for both the door and the back panel!
