INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Awesome news! I am really pleased on my first pen. We are doing tractor style so the can be moved often. We havent decided on the roof yet, I am leaning towards using barn siding, lighter weight.

Pm'd you, thanks!

I just found out my neighbor rehomed his (used to be mine) and sold off his chickens. :( He stopped in today to see about DH turning his garden with our tractor. I just adore your IBs, beautiful!

Thanks, yeah they are growing quite nice. The 2 whites will be a year old in June. Still not sure which one I'll be keeping. I know they're going to be beautiful but having 3 males with only 2 hens just isn't going to work well I don't think. I'm worried when they start to mature they will leave in search of females. A man I work with has mentioned an interest but he has 2 homes one being a farm with about 200 acres however he's also mentioned many times how he's only there over some weekends etc. I'm not convinced that would work out well. I probably will wait to rehome 1 next year when they're about 2 yrs old. Right now they're still following "momma" around and peep for her when she's not in sight.

Aww well that stinks he rehomed them. You'd have thought he'd mention it to you first, or at least I would have. ;)

One of these drakes is really sweet, nice big guy, yours if you want him. I only keep 2, drake fights are horrible, and very hard to break up. I would rather stop geese fights, scovies have very sharp claws. I have a few boys that are mean to the duck hens so they won't make a good flock drake. This guy is gorgeous black fella that you are welcome to, it will give you chocolate and black ducklings. His parents are unrelated to your hen also.
You are welcome to come for processing! I think there will be 4, undecided on 1 right now, he is a lavender but am not liking his aggression with my goose hens.
It gets manageable after time, buts still not easy for me either. I keep reminding myself I gave them a full life, and its why they are here.
Sorry to hear about your poults. I tried getting ours at RK one year, and they all flipped. Just too much stress for them. Poults are very fragile the first week and I think all the touching and noise is too much for them.
You did the right thing for them, cuddling really helps them. I adore poults and goslings! Both are just so loveable.

yesssss! they do!
I forgot how much mess ducklings make, ugh! my tiny lil mallards are about 1/3 grown already, looking like 4 are drakes! They were outdoors today for the first time, just adorable.
Let us know when you'll be processing so we can make some time to come over (preferably a weekend bc I'm full time student and he's working full time).

We've lost two out of five total poults. The incessant peeping of the nights before stopped with the death of the last one, but I'm still not sure what caused it and if it had anything to do with the wood chip in his mouth. I moved all of our bitties together yesterday into one big brooder, and they seem to be better off for it, even though the babies get run over by the bigger 3-or-so-wk-old Brahmas, the PR and the Jersey Giant. The bitties seem to like the company of the bigger chicks, and the Brahmas are especially gentle with the bitties. Of course, the Brahmas still might be Cochin. Nobody seems to know the difference at this age.
