INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Yet a THIRD person, this time someone from this thread who shall remain nameless, backed out of a weeks-long planned purchase of Jubilee Orpington chicks. One minute it was GREAT! When can I get more? and the next it was no go.

Interestingly, most of these last minute blow-offs have come from men.

So, if you are female, and serious about having some beautiful flock art, or want to get started with Jubilees, I have 4, week-old chicks (hatched Easter weekend or right after) that are ready to go. I keep my prices very reasonable so that people CAN afford them. I am NPIP certified and the chicks have been vaccinated against Marek's disease.

Please PM me if interested. Here's a photo of one of the roos in the breeding pen. He's still a baby (just a year old) in his juvenile plumage.

I had a chicken sale back out tonight. or at least not show up. I suppose I could still get that call that says something came up and can they reschedule. The prices you have posted in the past have always been reasonable for your breeds.
My no show was for 4 RIR started pullets. So I now have those available. Of course this time of year I have lots of started pullets available at reasonable prices. Funny how some people want everything for free though. I turned away a caller today wanting all of the following for free or under $5:
3 mating age roosters
4 dozen pure breed heritage eggs
and 6 old hens about a year or so, still laying of course.

6 of my 7 pulled a houdini and squeezed under the fencing blocking the the side of the house (How in the world they got thru that tiny space I do not know!). My daughter looks out the front window and this guy walking by has this crazy look on his face. And then DD sees the chickens who think they've hit the jackpot of unscratched territory. They are pretty easy to get back in the yard when enticed by BOSS. But one probably jumped on the AC unit and then onto the fence and into the fenced yard of our not so nice neighbor with "NO TRESPASSING" signs posted all the way around. Rhonda was by the gate looking very pretty in a bed of Tulips and Grape hyacinth. I enticed her over with BOSS, cracked the gate and she came out. Does our neighbor have cameras and will she take me to court for my fingers trespassing beyond her sign or for the chicken trespassing? I hope not, but honestly I would not put it past her. She came home minutes after we got them in as we were lining the bottom of the fencing with cinder blocks to prevent more escapes.
My neighbor is clearing a path through the back woods to put up cattle panels to help keep our free ranging roosters out of his side of the back woods. BUT chickens love a freshly cleared area so really he is attracting them right now. And to top it off there is a tree that we wanted to have cut down when the opportunity to have it done for free came up. But no he said it sat on the line and was nowhere near dead. So we left it. Now that he is putting up the fence he wants up to have the DEAD tree taken down so it can't fall on his fence. Maybe this fall if I can find a tree trimmer looking for work but not during their busiest time of the year.

The ones that were for tonight are not. The ones that should hatch out by the 21st and be free of the incubator by the 22nd will be.
I'm growing out a few heritage chicks right now but so far MOST of them are roosters. I need some of @jchny2000 's luck to get more females.

@ellymayRans my blue girl must have started laying! I've gotten a couple of these pretty pullet eggs in the last few weeks.

@SallyinIndiana I can't believe people actually ask for you to just give them birds!! That's crazy! I understand negotiating but wow!

Okay folks, I have two broody monsters with 12 of my flocks mixed color silkie eggs under them. THESE ARE THE LAST OF THE MIXED, MEANING SOME OF THE REALLY FUN COLORS WILL NO LONGER BE AVAILABLE AFTER THESE HATCHES. When they hatch I won't be keeping most of them. Also @bradselig has a few dozen give or take of my silkie eggs in his incubator now due to hatch in a couple of weeks I believe. Will update with pics when they hatch.

Ok this one needs to be shared with BYC's!!
Yesterday I collected the eggs. (It's mostly my children's chore to do). I gathered the two fake eggs out of one of our nesting boxes because I figured there not needed and really needed to be cleaned. Ok who can imagine where this story is heading??
I placed them with the rest of the eggs to be taken inside. Well my bad I forgot to mention this to the rest of the family! Last night was a late one and it was my sons turn to wash the eggs. Yes he is 13 and does not want to do much out of his way. You know the kind of attitude that late at night "do it just to get it done" and not really pay much attention to detail.
So who now has guessed how this story is going to end??
Yes he washed the fake eggs (they needed it so that was good). When he was done with the eggs we had around 11 dozen in the fridge.
Ok it dawns on me after there practices when we get home my son had washed the fake eggs and put them in cartons with our sale eggs!!
Let's go back just a little to last night when I noticed he placed all the eggs in 18ct cartons and not 12ct. So we all changed them over and yes mixed them up even more.
Back to tonight, we now have two fake eggs somewhere in 11 dozen eggs!!!!!!!!
My DW took two dozen to work this morning. So now we are looking through all the eggs and can't find the fake ones. Then we candle all the brown eggs!! This now is getting on my nerves. They are all real. But I've never candeled ceramic eggs so I'm not sure what they look like.
So we get through them all and I call it, (they must be in the two cartons my DW took).

This is where you that guessed (like me WRONG) where they ended up!?!?

Where you ask??

After we get done candling the eggs. My daughter chimes in "he did throw a couple away". So now my DW is digging in the trash and Boom!! There they are the nasty dirty fake eggs in the trash lol ok that's it that's how are eve ended. Anyone guess they wound up in the trash!!! Lol what a night....

Strangest call to date was someone asking if I sold donkeys. After a few questions I let them talk to my 3 yr old who happened to be asking for the phone at just hte right time.
Normally though if I don't have what the person wants, I'll give them a name and number of a person that might have it.
I could use a peacock and peahen breeders name and number.
