INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

mcurry~ Welcome to the Indiana Thread!

animallover~ Does sq refer to square? I found this info relating to square: The history of the Polish chicken is obscure. The breed is not from Poland, but rather derived its name from the resemblance to the square, spreading crests on the feathered caps historically worn by Polish soldiers. Poultry historians believe that Polish chickens were brought from Spain to Holland when the Spaniards occupied the lowlands. Credit is given to the Dutch fanciers of the eighteenth century for refining the color patterns and developing the crests of Polish chickens. The breed was utilized in France for production purposes. Polish chickens are believed to have arrived in America between 1830 and 1840 – by 1850 they were fairly widespread and appreciated for egg production.

I too love these logs! I've been thinking about randomly placing "A" frame hides around the yard for predator protection. Obviously it will be protection from hawks and not so much dogs.

I think I need a chicken intervention! So I finally added up how many chicks I have and pretty shocked. I have 71 chicks! 9 will be leaving next week, but I have more hatching and more eggs already paid for to ship later this spring/summer! Darn chicken math!
