INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Mine have flashed every night since we put them up. It must not take a lot to charge them. We put them up in an afternoon and they were flashing that first night.

I have a goat that is limping. I can't see or feel anything wrong with her leg though. She is due to kid anytime between now and the new year. I'm hoping the limp will be gone before the kid(s) come.
The goat could have an abcess in its hoof. If the foot feels hot, that's most likely the cause. You can soak in warm epsom salt water.

I remember having my leg go out from under me when I was huge preggers, too. I wonder, do goats have problems with the sciatic nerve, too?

Thanks

The chicken on the far right is a Gold Brabanter rooster. Isn't he wild looking? He doesn't have his full adult coloring yet as these chickens are 5 months old.

L to R are 4 hens: Tolbunt Polish frizzle, cream legbar, polish I was told was Tolbunt but wonder if gold laced or a mix, cream legbar... Then the lone rooster.
Coloring in tolbunts can vary. Ideally there is a balanced mixture of black, gold-brown, and white, but because of the mixtures that went into creating the variety, the ideal doesn't always happen. I had one pullet that looked like a gold laced until examination revealed bits of white here and there, so she actually was tolbunt.
Throwbacks can happen in other animals as well. I bought a cattle dog puppy from pure stock, and what grew up is a perfect picture of her ancient dingo ancestry. Go figure!

Moms surgery went "picture perfect" according to the team doing the procedure. She has the new heart valve in place, was alert and talking. Dads exhausted and relieved she is recovering. Everything went so quickly, I never had time to read or post a thing, LOL!
So glad to hear that--what a relief for all of you!

@ellymayRans I'm so sorry about your baby! It's heartbreaking to lose one.
I agree with Racin that you might want to keep everyone cooped up until the owl decides to look elsewhere.

Thanks @sallyinindiana. My DH just bought me 2 LED solar powered Motion detecter lights. That was Sunday. Just wish I would have put them up already!
Chilly overcast days I didn't think they'd be able to charge.

These aren't like what you posted. I wonder if they will even work on the Owl issue????

I found my girl on the roadside behind our place. She was just missing her entire neck and head. So sad.

Thats what I find here too. Just head gone. I just keep chasing it off

Yes they do I have a Boar nanny that has the problem, iy comes and goes.

What should I look for when trying to decide what barred rock to keep i have two that are darker then the rest is that good or bad
As far as SQ I don't have a clue, but BR's always have a place with me, they are cold hardy, good layers and most get along with anything you put them with.

I just brought in Kelogg last night, he is sick now too. If it is MG ( guess I will have to take one of them in and see for sure at the vets ) and if it will come back if stressed and such I will have to cull them all. I want a healthy flock and just cant afford to give all these meds all the time and I don't want the uninfected becoming infected and that will break my heart, but it will just have to be done.
Don't get me wrong if it was something I could cure, I would do it in a heart beat!! Bubbles is very special me and will hate to have to cull her.
Can you tell me what causes it so I can try and stop it? It is not just my Silkies. It has hit at least 1 of every pen other than my EE/AM groups. And Waddles, knock on wood man I hope it don't get to him.
I would like to get as much info as I can, everything I have read just confuses me more. I just cant find anything on MG that don't use mile long words!! And it is so vague with how to treat it and so on.

Quote: I will tell DH we have to come weekend after this one. Look at her hooves, she may need trimmed. Nubian need trimmed more often than you expect.. They will founder faster than smaller breeds too.

That sounds great. The goat that is limping is Ice Cream, the goat I got from you as a kid. I looked at the hooves they don't look like they need trimming. I plan to trim this Saturday but there really won't be much to trim. But if it is raining or lots of mud then I'll wait a day or two to trim. The hooves were just trimmed the day before Thanksgiving for all of my goats.
