INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Talked to the neighbor family whose parkway had all the feathers after they came home... the stray dog I'm harboring killed her in front of their children. Poor girls (both Brienne and the neighbor girl I talked to). I think they suspected (or knew) she was mine but had thought I might be mad about it. I'm not even sure what I should cry over first.

Also, did find out who owned the fighting cocks. This nice family picks them (losers) up super cheap at flea markets. Make good a stew as any other bird, I suppose.
So sorry about your beautiful hen.

Update on Brinsea humidity problem: waiting to hear back from the company. I am manually pushing water through now, a little at a time as to not get too much humidity.

@jchny2000 I think you are right, it isn't priming, but I keep looking at it to figure that out...getting nowhere. My engineer brother was home yesterday, I should have had him look at it!!

I'm looking at this as a learning experience so I don't get too mad about possibly not hatching any. I also think that if a bird/chicken was broody outside this time of year, the conditions aren't very favorable, but chicks can hatch in winter, so there's hope!

At least other people had similar problems, so you're not alone.

Good morning everyone. We are starting to dry out here in the swamps of Southern Indiana. We still have mud but it's not as deep as it was yesterday.

We are in the 40s so it's not to bitter cold out just a little nippy. The chickens and ducks are out and about in the yard enjoying the dry weather. No sun yet but I think it's predicted for tomorrow.

I hope everyone has a nice day.

I'm so lost for words these days have been greatly sad on Kelevra farms a jersey giant chick died as well as three barred rocks one of my lovely light brahma girls wasn't active today and I'm so scared and don't know what to do she's so sweet this state is really testing my nerve..

I'd like to get another dark brahma hen or 2. I love mine, but they are hatchery stock. It'd be great to find some big girls, or chicks that would become big girls.
Mine were from RK and grew to be pretty darn big fluffybutts. All three are/were very friendly, attractive birds. I don't think Dark Brahmas have been as overbred and polluted as Light Brahmas in the big hatcheries. There just isn't as much demand for them.

Mag the Mighty and Wun Wun are pretty different, but different breeders go for different attributes. I've seen some Brahmas that are more like beefy Malay or Langshans, and others that are more like Cochins, which is why I think I have a super-beefy linebacker Langshan (Wun Wun), and one glorified tea-cozy of the gods (Mag and Brienne)

I'm so sorry for your losses. Do you have the chicks in a brooder or is the momma hen taking care of them? Have you just moved to Indiana?

I've technically been here near two years but left last fall for business came back in the spring which is when I first got the chickens the chicks are in a brooder in the shed where I had my cx but I think I didn't clean it enough the brahma was about laying age and was put in a breeding pen on Christmas.. They hate it so much in there it's not the brooder any more(yes I know near laying age still in the brooder what!!! Pen took awhile to complete and guess I have to fix a lot of it)
Just got the text I feared the most she didn't make it... I feel like crying ugh I actually did all the way home

I'm so sorry for your loss. Is the floor of the shed dry and do you have enough ventalation? Do they go outside during the day? Mine go stir crazy if they have to be cooped up all day. They go out in the morning and put theirselves up in the evening.

Yes the floor is dry yes they have ventilation they do not go outside sometimes they have free range of the hatchery though not by my choice
