INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Hi @pattyhen ! I'm in S.I. too and yes, this weather has been crazy. Chickens are tired of it, my dog is tired of it, I'm tired of the wet, dirty feet in the house... I get at least one migraine a week anymore because of the constant weather change.
Know the feeling. I try to psyched up about mopping anymore... but the blasted migraine usually wins

I've had my beautiful speckled sussexs for almost a year now and have used this sight along the way. just made an account though and thought I'd check in on the Indiana thread before i got new chicks for this springs (probable) new batch of chicks.
Thanks for all the help,
Sterling

I'm doing some reading/research about beekeeping. I think there are some members here who keep bees, just wanted to throw a couple questions out there. Are there any good books and or websites I should be looking at? Are there any specific suppliers I should be looking for or avoiding? I obviously know little to nothing about keeping them right now, just thinking about adding another hobby that could provide some good honey and help pollination around my place.

Thanks

We have/had bees. You should stop over, W can tell you plenty about keeping them.

I keep looking at my incubator...Its whispering at me PSSSSST>>> No peepings anywhere, no babies. Then I shut the door and tell myself NOOOOOO! Trying to hold out until March. DD picked up her goslings Christmas weekend. Been seeing reports about fires from heat lamps, so until I can upgrade to something safer we will wait. My ceramic fixture set up and brooder is so worn out, I am ready to replace it. Finally tossed it out, and looking at some of the newer options.
Constructing a farrowing pen. My first farrowing of piglets is due late January. They are from Oreo my hog, and Double Stuff my sow, ( both Hampshires). Nervous... but excited to raise our own from the beginning! I am super pleased with both hogs temperaments so we've decided its time. My sow is 10 months old and already about 160 pounds. They do grow slower but its been the best personality breed wise I have kept yet.

Brienne sure was pretty - sorry about the dog getting her - we've had that happen to some of ours on 3 different occasions - what breed was Brienne?
well, I found what was left of Brienne's nest. Most of her eggs had been eaten, but I found five that were freezing cold but intact. I'm warming them by a heater now. The same broody Australorp who hatched three babies earlier this autumn may be going broody again, so I'm hoping to stick these under her. I found some of what look to be Brienne's feathers further down the road from her nest, and I'm hoping she made it to safety. I'm pretty sure this new dog is responsible because, when it comes to chickens, his loving discipline just turns off completely. She was our children's (and my) favorite hen.

She looks like a silver penciled Rock.

She was a Dark Brahma. Her fluffy feet and overall hugeness are hard to make out in the pictures. Hands down the biggest girl in the yard (until the new Brahmas from Barb's came in; one of those girls is approaching Bumble proportions).

I'd like to get another dark brahma hen or 2. I love mine, but they are hatchery stock. It'd be great to find some big girls, or chicks that would become big girls.
