Black ripple and lavender both hatch yellowish, but blacks will have a touch of black on the tail. Black pied or chocolate pied hatch with the wild type pattern. Some examples: These will all be black pied, like Huey. Bottom center is a black ripple, upper right is a lavender ripple. Chocolate pied, lavender ripple. Your baby may look like this one! Lavender and black ripple Chocolate pieds and ripples.

Well tons of possibilities for sure!! Haha! Great now i wait! Lol!!

I have been using this over my kennel pen run for a few years. It works well for a hawk covering and makes the kennel pen safe from hawks really inexpensively. YOU CAN PICK IT UP LOCALLY AT MENARDS OR LOWES and save the shipping.

I have it just zip-tied up over the kennel. I also zipped it to the kennel sides a couple years ago when I started getting robins and sparrows going into the kennel to dig for worms in the deep litter and eat the dropped seeds. I just zipped it on and no more bird entries


But be aware that is is very light weight and will not secure your pens from predators.

Okay, to end the day, we have 2 babies hatched, and one external pip and one internal pip on the eggs. The internal pip is a noisy little baby!! I'd say some of these babies got a lot of their momma's attitude!

So the baby that I saw with the black flecks, I'm thinking that was shadows or something... The two that have hatched have no flecks. Anyway, I got a few pictures of them with my good camera tonight before closing the coop for the night! These babies are too flippin' adorable!!

And Baby 2, who I'm leaning more and more towards coming from an egg that wasn't Margie's...

And because it's just too cute for words, Baby 1 and Mama Margie getting ready for bed! "Um, momma and me are trying to sleep, nosy human!"

I am exhausted from running out to the coop all day. Can't wait to see what happens tomorrow!!

So I have a newbie question....for the past 2 weeks my one hen has been sitting in her nest box for a while. She'll start in one spot for 2-3 days then move to another nest box and sit there for 2-3 days like she's trying to hatch her egg or something. Which I could understand if she was last week since we had a rooster, but after the rooster incident on Monday with the hawk there were no eggs that day so the hawk got the eggs but she's been sitting again in a different spot since Monday. I try to lift her up to see if there's any eggs but the pecks the crap out of me so I took a shovel to lift her bottom to see if there's any eggs and there were no eggs....I finally got her out of the box and her feathers were really ruffled walking about in the yard. Went to go close them in tonight and she was again in the nest box, different spot. Idk what's going on! Any ideas!?

Sounds like she's going broody.

FYI - your eggs should still be fertile for awhile even though your roo is gone. Sometimes up to 3 weeks after.

So if she keeps up the broody behavior for several days and doesn't seem deterred, and if you wanted some chicks from your roo, you could likely give her some eggs to set.

Also, fyi, they can go broody at any time - roo or not.

Honestly don't really know what broody is. And no I do not know how to tell if they are fertile. I guess I wasn't leaning towards the Roo any cause he just started to crow a month ago and we have never seen him do his "business" with any of the hens! So I guess I'm just a little clueless of what's going on. We have never had a hen try to hatch an egg before. And the weird thing is there was no egg the one time she was sitting there.
