INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Took a few pics tonight of some of the birds.
Well I hope you have them locked up tight!!! I might just come over and get them!

Just Kidding. I love polish and silkies!!!

Wow! As always it's busy on here! As always!

Great pics everybody, chick, kittens, coups!! Things are looking good. Love seeing all of them. And everybody has some great ideas.

Welcome to all the newcomers. Lots of reading here!

Oh, goodness! The chicks are adorable, but I really love those jars you have in the background!

Cute Sebright! I love the siding on your coop!
Thanks! I love the jars too! Cracker Barrel put all of their Rooster decor on clearance and I couldn't resist. They also make a great background for chick pics.

On another note, I have two pips in the incubator!

Should have more fluffy butts by morning. I think I have 30 silkie eggs that made it to lockdown. Can't remember my count anymore. Sure sign of a "hatchaholic".

Has anyone ever seen a Cornish cross with feathered legs??? I bought 8 from TSC a few weeks back, and of my remaining 6 one has feathered legs. It is looking almost identical to my Light Brahamas from Rural King.

Judging by the size of this guy compared to the other cornish x I have im guessing I got something else.

Welcome! I live about 30mins south of Ft Wayne! Glad to see more chicken people up north! I have several chicks for sale of different breeds. Most are 4-5 weeks old and becoming easier to sex. Let me know if there is anything that interests you. I think my lists a few pages back, but feel free to send me a pm and I can send it to you if your interested.
Thank you! After spending too much of the day reading the boards and not doing my homework until later, I ended up picking out which chicks and making my order for early June. Thank you for the offer-- I appreciate it. I have a co-worker who keeps them as well so if she says anything about needing some older chicks, I'll definitely let her know that you have some.

I am going on a short trip in May so I set my delivery for early June. I ended up ordering 1 Barred Rock, 1 Partridge Rock, 1 Red Star, 1 NH Red, 2 EE so 6 in total. I ordered a "free" chick as well so I can hopefully donate her eggs to a food bank or something. So if everything goes well, my starter flock will total 7. Here's hoping they are healthy and thrive! I thought I could wait but I wanted to reserve them and was already browsing so I caved. Perhaps the Red Star and NH Red will mature fast and start laying before the cold sets in.

Nice. Our chickens didn't know what to do with their new, abundant room either, but they sure figured out what to do with it after 30 minutes. Great looking pullets.

Lol! I hope they are pullets. The cochin thread is pretty sure my little black "Olive" bantam cochin is a boy. ;( That is the sweetest chicken ever hatched. It hurt its foot a couple of weeks ago, and apparently it only takes a few days by itself, only seeing humans, for a chicken to get very very attached to people. Now that it is all healed up it is constantly under foot or on my arm. I should also mention it also takes the same amount of time for a human to get very, very attached to a little baby chicken kitten.

Very nice looking flock:) is that a light brahma?

If you are referring to my picture, I think that we have a light brahma, and a buff brahma. We got them in the "grab bag" bantam bin at TSC. I think the light brahma is a roo, he still doesn't have shoulder feathers on his wings. It's taking forever for him to feather out. They are 6 weeks old.I think the buff is a pullet though.

Welcome milamber! If anyone else can help milamber with advice, please do so. vickichicki has some suggestions, but I didn't want the post to get lost in case someone else has additional tips.

Sorry to hear you can not have chickens where you are. It is pretty sad to hear as chickens are not a nuisance or even as loud as some people's chained up dogs that won't quit barking.

If you back out to the BYC main forums listing, under 'raising backyard chickens' there is a sub heading of 'local ordinances and how to change them'. There is a search on the thread page at the top. Try typing in your city and see if someone else has discussed your area before... If nit.. Try starting a thread there.

Welcome CountryHen! We look forward to hearing about your upcoming flock.

Glad you found us! It is nice you are shopping around for breeds. I think a lot of us ended up with chickens before we even knew what breed was what. People have some great opinions on here regarding what breeds are best.

I have some laying age RIRs. A few mixed bantams and finally got some ee's and orpingtons. Love them all.

When you have decided on breeds ask here what people are currently hatching or if someone is interested in trading etc. Might be a chicken out there you did not k ow you wanted until it was on offer

Thanks vickichicki! My other post I shared that I ended up placing my order for early June. I was trying to figure out the best combination of when they were available etc. Now its crunch time in the next 6 weeks to get my brooder set up and the coop hopefully started!

animallover~ I doubt you should wrap frostbite, but hopefully someone more experienced can advise you.

ellymayrans~I especially love tiger-striped cats!

LeahsMom~ Your Swedish Flower Hens looks so festive-- like they have confetti on them. Very pretty.

So many great posts and interesting pictures-- from pets to pallets!

LIttleAmerMom~ What kind of pigeon is this? At first glance, I thought you had dressed it in a mink coat! Amazing.
