Has anyone ever seen a Cornish cross with feathered legs??? I bought 8 from TSC a few weeks back, and of my remaining 6 one has feathered legs. It is looking almost identical to my Light Brahamas from Rural King.

Judging by the size of this guy compared to the other cornish x I have im guessing I got something else.

I have a bird that looks like a cornish cross with feathered legs as well. I have never determined what breed it really is tho. I bought it off a guy about a year ago. Mine isnt that big tho.

My vote, Black Australorp 100% she looks exactly like my 17 week olds!

Does anyone know where I set my preferences so I don't only see 10 posts on this way active thread? I'd like to set it up to 25, or maybe 50? Anything would be better so I don't have to worry about rolling over the annoying active adds whenever my mouse pointer touches one. Yes almost all my viewing is done on an archaic desk PC.

Oh yeah. We are getting a trencher today, to bury the fencing 2 feet down. We have considered our fencing options, and are mainly worried about large predators like racoons, coyotes, red-tailed hawks, so we are using welded 2x4'' wire. Way cheaper than 1/2'' welded, almost half the price. If anyone thinks we are making a huge mistake, please let us know. No snakes that we know of around here to eat chickens, and if anything does get thru the 2x4'', they still have to get into the fortress, I mean the coop. That coop will withstand an (almost) direct hit from an F1 tornado! We figured for the added expense of 1/2'' wiring isn't needed since the coop is so secure. This fencing is to make the run.

Thoughts?

I am so sorry crafty. I had an egg due that under a hen. It started but never finished.

X2. Had a goose that was 100% and pipped, just died in the shell. Broke my heart. I will not wait the 3 days again, day 2 I am helping. If I see they are struggling I won't wait again!

I got the quail butchered today. As everything I've read stated, it was pretty easy! I have them soaking in salt water right now in the fridge and wil bag them up and freeze them. I definitely think it will take two for a meal. I found that pruning shears were the easiest to kill and remove head. All in one quick motion, the job was done. Hope they taste good!

Awesome, let us know your opinion on them. I love the dark meat.. drumstick, thigh and I am hoping they are like a pheasant. I was holding out til I heard opinions

I will be hatching scovy in 2 weeks, but I am north of indy, in Pendleton. Mine are the chocolate, choc barred, and pied black, black barred. hope you find someone closer!

Hi Hoosiers! I just joined today-- have been researching for a few weeks but don't have any chicks yet. I would like to have my coop mostly/all built before I even get my chicks.
Oh, I live in Woodburn, east of Fort Wayne.

I'm planning on getting around 5 or 6 chicks- at least 1 Barred Rock and 1 EE. Still working on the other breeds. I keep changing my mind. There are so many breeds that I'd like to have.

I love that there is a "local" board here!

Hello everyone! I live in Dyer, IN and I'm very new to the world of keeping chickens. My city currently doesn't allow chickens but I want to start working on changing that. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as well as any local support!!!

I was Director of animal control there in Dyer, St. John and Schererville about 17 years ago.(Ttri-town) Small world! I lived in Lake County for 35 years, (Cedar Lake) Contact your town council, PD, Dept of Public Works and animal control. I know they had implemented a cat leash law before I started working there

It was so hopeless... Speak up and be heard, No idea who is in office now, but I know Dyer was always concerned with the residents being happy with the town. Its unreasonable to not allow a few chickens, just IMHO!
