Random post: I'm going nuts waiting for our newer pullets to lay! We don't know how old they were when we got them, but 3 of the 4 are now as big as our 2 year old girls. They just don't have the big combs, etc. yet. I'm about to give up. Anyone else get over anxious for hens to start laying? GAH!

Perhaps you could buy more chicks! While you're going crazy with chicken math & caring for the new littles, time will fly by. Before you know it, you'll get some eggs.

The lost chicken never made it home. I'm guessing something got an easy meal :-(.

We are newer to chickens. I started our flock in feb and have added from a few people plus rk and tsc. We've been very very fortunate. One wheatan maran had ties missing and I was aware when we took her she passed a week later. One silver laced was exceptionally small and passed days later then my other wheatan maran disappeared. So we have lost 3 of 46.

I opened our coop up to free range about six weeks ago. The bigger chickens. Barely go out. The younger and smaller ones stay outside. The medium ones go in and out through the day. I've been taking the big ones out trying to get them to venture out more on their own. I added the last 4 chicks that we hatched here to the coop two weeks ago. There are several safety spots they can get to and it worked fine. In the last 5 days I've noticed them running around with all the chickens with little separation. Then the past two days they have been going outside. But they show NO fear. They run to the dog, a 10 month old Great Dane. They chase me all over the yard even places where none of the other chickens have gone. The others all stick near their coop door or atleast when they can see it. These new littles seem to be daredevils or just plain clueless! So weird!

Very anxious here. We started our flock in Feb and have no eggs yet! We bought some later that were hatched 1/22 so hopefully soon!
