INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Its been a looooooong busy month, or I suppose July was. We started upgrading the chook's run. Driving 2x4s two feet deep is fun, but it looks better every day and I enjoy looking out in the morning to see our handy work. We had to put a lot on hold because my great grandma has been fading fast. At 89 years young, she left us this past Saturday. It hurts so much but I've still not quite come to terms with it, she was one of my best friends. I spent the entire weekend before and then some with her, thankfully I have a very understanding boss. This weekend is the funeral, but Sunday we'll be back to upgrading the run.

We also rehomed our Partridge Cochin Cockerel. I wanted to keep him to breed, but my Ameraucana roo doesn't crow and I'd like to keep it that way. We have a couple more ladies on CL to bring our flock down to size, but we're getting there. Thanks everyone for your support, hopefully I'll be back to active on here soon as things calm down.
I am very sorry for your loss.
I am so sorry to see your mom passed ( a little late i havent been on here in awhile!)
So hard for those of you left behind to miss her. What an incredible legacy of love in your parents! Especially praying for your dad. The worst grief I've ever seen was in my grandma when my grandpa died. They were married 64 years.
A love that enduring can only lead to a truly broken heart when one spouse is gone. It is hard to imagine what your dad is feeling.
Keeping you and yours in my prayers!
Thank you. Dads doing ok, he is getting outdoors a lot more. I get my "keep busy" from him. He has learned to ride the 4 wheeler to collect hay! We mow a couple of the non pastured acres and pick it up with the "leaf catcher". Amazing seeing my 83 yr old dad on my 4 wheeler, just grinning!
Can someone please explain - have rules changed? My post was edited b/c you can't advertise outside of Buy/Sell/trade. I didn't realize I was advertising. In the past we've said things on this thread like I'm looking for... please PM me if you have- are we not allowed to do that anymore? I wasn't advertising I was doing what we've done before so I am confused.

Even the part of me venting that I only ended up with 3 pullets out of the 8 I bought was deleted? Was that because I mentioned where I got them? I'm really confused! It's been while since I've been on here but rules have changed that much in the past few months?

I find looking for anything on buy/sell trade incredibly difficult b/c unless I am missing something it is not organized by area you live. I'm not trying to be difficult, just trying to understand. I know last time I was on here people were mentioning chicks they are looking for.
I hope that's not the case. In the past, we have always jut been able to post a note saying to please PM if you have a certain bird we wanted.

Unrelated question: I am heading south of Indy this weekend, Morgantown/Trafalgar area- trying to optimize my driving and wondering if there is a Grain Mill that sells whole grain, Non GMO feed down that way. Not wanting to go all the way up to Lebanon and then down south, but I may have to cause I'm not finding anything online. We have specific needs, which is why I need a grain mill. We need feed without wheat b/c if I feed the girls wheat my 2 Celiac's get sick from the eggs. @jchny2000 or anyone do you know of any- the list on the Indiana page doesn't have anything south.
I'm sorry I don't. Some Rural King and TSC have started carried non GMO but may contain wheat.
@Nyla did your flyer have a coupon? If so I should get it today or tomorrow, it always comes AFTER I make my TSC run!

The reason why I haven't been on here: I find this site truly addicting and I'd much rather be on here instead of getting my work done!!! Been surfing on here way too long this AM! I feel like I have to ground myself from BYC!
Ugh so not kidding!
I just it is a little ridiculous. I feel that we should be able to discuss on this thread rehoming our birds. If one of my chicks turns out to be a Roo, I would much rather search on here for an Indiana local to take him, rather than having to deal with someone out of state.
Agreed.
One broody has now hatched four babies, and judging by the eggs they hatched from I know one's half BCM, one's half mottled Breda, one's half EE, and one's half OE, but they all look alike. Have four older chicks from the ducks hatching, and half look like Leghorn mixes. Have a broody blue copper Marans, but it looks like she's been evicted from nervous nest by--get this--a broody Leghorn? Surely the world must be ending or something. Only time will tell if she's serious, but I know she's serious enough to try taking a piece out of my hands for stealing some eggs to give back to the blue mommy.

The black EE roo is healing much better on his bumblefoot now that I'm not confining and torturing him. It's taking forever, but he's definitely much better.

The neighborhood has been taken over by a family of what look to be Cooper's hawks. Thought they might be sharp shinned based on one that got caught in the chicken run (thank heavens it was after the sparrows and not my birds), but I saw a juvenile female and *holy cow* she's a lot bigger than that one had been, they're all making the same calkd, but the juveniles sound lower and hoarser because they're calling *all the time*. Parents aren't around anymore, I'm guessing because the two juveniles (one boy, one girl) are calling all the time instead of adjusting and hunting for themselves. Been dramatic here
Sharp shinned are ruthless hawks. Its the only type I have ever had an issue with.

So I have little under 151 quail chicks. 29 were hatched July 13th and have been crowing for about a week. 50 were hatched July 19th. 55 were hatch August 3rd. and 17 I just hatched yesterday! All quails were bought from 4 different sellers so I will not have inner breeding.

I would love all of you's opinion on pricing for hatching eggs!

When my quails start to lay eggs I will be selling them. But I want to know a reasonable price range so everyone is happy! I always do free shipping. Also I'm going to be using the funds made to buy me that cute Australian shepherd puppy!
Ohh the quails I'm talking about are Coturnix.
I have tuxedos, Jumbo Browns, Standard browns, Jumbo Texas A&M, Standard Texas A&M, Rosetta, Italian, Celadon layers, Schofield Silver, and German Line. I have them all in their very own color labeled cages.

Are these meal worm beetles? (the potato is cut in half) I found them inside my shed with my hay bales. I've had them in a container for over a month and still no meal-worms..

Not sure if I ever replied!
Muscovy fly, and just seem to make less mud and mess. Most of my scovys always roosted, made it easier to keep the coop clean.
That makes sense. I don't have other ducks, but have considered it, but don't want the duck messes they make that I've read about.

Muscovy ducks has claws and will use them. They also hiss and chirp instead of quacking. They wag their tails and bob their heads as great-tings. They lay an egg every day non stop for about a month then take about a week off. They forum strong bonds if raised from a duckling. I have one who roosts outside my bedroom window every night and wakes me up every morning by tapping on my window with its bill. They are very interesting birds! Are you wanting Muscovy's?
