INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

@hbrown322
BTW - We had your chicken's twin here. She hatched from a brown egg. The mom was a barnyard mix who lays normal brown colored eggs. The dad hatched from a pinkish egg. We later discovered that the dad was an EE because all of his female chicks laid blue or green eggs. This particular hen (Omelet) laid very colorful big green eggs that were often double yolkers.

She was a very awkward-looking chick but got better looking with age.

Omelet went to live with another family, but we still remember her story. (She was hatched from a big refrigerated egg. I was planning to make breakfast, but DD thought it might contain twins, so she slipped it into the incubator. Instead of a tasty meal, we got an ugly chick. LOL)

@hbrown322 definitely a girl. Boys would have more color in the shoulders and/or saddles. Generally, if only the hackles have some color, it's a girl.

That gold birchen type color is really common for black sex links (caused by red bleed into a black base) and Olive Eggers (caused by breeding a typically black base Ameraucana or EE with a black copper Marans to get OE).

Good news is that a silkie pullet started laying yesterday, but the bad news is that she might be the only pullet of the bunch. The others are looking more and more roo, and two are crowing.

I don’t know if any of you watch Coop Dreams, it’s on Discover America (I think?). You can also watch the episodes on their website. It’s about a family from Indy who moves from the city to start a homestead. He starts with chickens, then a garden & goats. Andrew from Agrarian is featured a lot in the first season. They host Coop Camp in a different location every year. It’s a weekend long “camp” with different activites and speakers. This year will be in Zionsville.
