INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Had to do some fluff trims today. Of course before Mr Dummy went back to the coop, DD insisted he stay for some cuddles. He's such a good boy!

Hi, i live in Indianapolis and i'm looking to buy some adult chickens (i am going to post in the buy sell and auction forum too). If anyone knows where i can buy them please let me know. I'm looking for adult (both hens and roosters) Cream legbars, Barred rocks, Rhode island reds, Silver laced Wyandottes, and White leghorns.

Are you opposed to purchasing through a hatchery?

If you can't find any locally in Indiana, places like mypetchicken.com and meyer hatchery sell and ship started birds.

This is a good place to start asking around. Most breeders only have 1-2 breeds they specialize in. If you want laying birds, you may need to visit multiple places & be willing to buy from their surplus or some former breeder birds 2-3 years old. (If you're looking to start your own line, the former breeders are great because you can get quality birds and a head start without years of culling.) If you're looking for younger layers, some 4H kids will grow out extras to sell. In late summer / early fall, there are tons of free roosters as well as people selling extra chickens to make more room in their coop. I've heard there are birds swaps & such, but I've never actually attended one.

My family's addicted to hatching, so that's the only way we've added to our flock.

I've got no pure breeds of anything. Working on a project. Hoping to get combless, muffless, clean shanked, autosexing EE type chickens in a few years. Marans, EE, Breda and White Leghorn blood mostly, but also may have Polish, Brahma, Orpington, Sussex, Ameraucana, and Production Red blood in varying amounts.

I've got lots of roosters that could use flocks of their own. Could use more pullets/hens of either chickens or turkeys. Especially interested in getting Breda and Legbar, but I've got to downsize on roos.

I checked mypetchicken and meyer hatchery and i could find pullets. But i'm also looking for adult roosters and i cant seem to find any.

You might want to call and talk to them when they are open. There isn't a big market for cockerels but you never know if they have some available.

But good thing - there are usually lots of folks that want to find homes for cockerels in the spring!
