INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Anyone know of somewhere near Northern Indiana I can get Indian Runner ducklings, or one ofsimilar size?

I recently received an order from Ideal and one of the ducklings didn’t make it. hoping to find a companion for the remaining duckling.

Thanks!
They should replace the duckling, just call!

I can't say enough good about Rough Collies, if you're asking for breed suggestions. Sure, their coat requires some maintenance. But they have all your other requirements in the bag! Love love LOVE my collie!

Now, I did pick a "breeder" that didn't have show dogs, because I didn't want to deal with a coat that was over the top. And that kind of breeder is harder to vet. Could be an irresponsible one. But I think I got lucky with mine.

And I do take her to the groomer every six weeks for a full groom. Mine charges $45, so lucky there too. I never have to brush her at home in between unless it's shedding season. She is SO smart and conscientious, she is worth every bit.
Love her! I would love smooth collies here.. Really feel they or rotties are my best option for LDG. My 3rd choice is Mastiff.
Silkies are definitely the hardest breed for me to sex. I have some 6.5 wk olds. Anyone who wants to give an opinion on gender, please feel free.

A = has the widest comb & slowest growing crest. My gut has always said male because it's "different" than the rest. It's a bit smaller and has a higher pitched peeping.

B= I simply can't tell. No obvious signs either way. I'm hoping for female.View attachment 1383318

C = This one has a touch of color on the comb, but it's pretty flat & not very wide. I'm guessing male b/cof the color. It didn't want its photo taken.

D = No real gender signs here either, so my guess can vary daily.

E = DD's fav. My gut says female, but it could also be wishful thinking. This is the one we're going to keep.

Size diff is huge. The little OEG is smaller than the seramas. Both LOVE to cuddle!

Seramas: I think the silkied serama is our only male.

This girl is named 'Noodle' She's very confident & the leader of the brooder.

We kept one Orpington to see how she'd look feathered out. She's one of our sweetest birds & now the big protector of this group. She doesn't seem to realize that she's so much bigger.

We also kept a blue & a Dom from an earlier hatch. They're 10 weeks old. Still hoping the Dom is female.

IDK either I am really bad judging silkies... Lovely chicks!

We process our sterile cow Abigail tomorrow. Its hard for us, she is a good girl. Holstein, has always been timid but very bullish. Spars with my Jersey bull nonstop. She and my bull are both 2 years old now. If you google "freemartin" you will understand. A sterile cow is no different than a steer. An animal that's sterile cannot help a farm.
I'm gathering to hatch eggs from chicken and ducks. Have really picked up interest on my EEs recently.

View attachment 1380447 I have been saving Ameraucana eggs bred with this guy (Rainbow). My buff Orpington hen was showing signs of broodiness this morning.

The mix should be colorful hens that lay light green eggs, with small combs. If Rainbow is double barred both male and female offspring will be barred. We will see.
Handsome rooster!

Awe. Have you tried craigslist? Can you try another breed?

What a beautiful dog!

Well, it has been an eventful week. Apparently, I have not gotten notifications. I think it has to do with the posting algorithms. Lol

Anyway, we put down our sweet 13 yr old schnoodle (schnauzer poodle mix) this week. He was in pain and had difficulty breathing. It was a hard decision for me. But, my hubby is the voice of reason.
Barkley has a nice resting place amongst the trees and a huge boulder. There is a trickle of sunshine raining down on it too. He was a one of a kind dog. Aren't they all?

That's the breed I had while growing up! Your collie looks beautiful.

Ours was a tri-colored and she was great. I was the one who had to brush her & I remember filling up a couple grocery store paper bags with fur. It could come out in big clumps. When I fell behind, my parents would have her shaved. She looked strange but it was cooler for the summer & no maintenance.
Thank you. We had a tricolor Sheltie before the collie. I miss her.

Thank you.

Why not get a regular LGD breed? Is it the coat?

Aw, I'm sorry for your loss. Yes, it is tough to lose them when they've been part of your life so long. When I had to put my Sheltie down (14y,7mo), it really helped me to see how relaxed and out of pain she was after they injected her. That's when I stopped second guessing my decision and knew that it has been in her best interest. She was a good girl. That was two years ago. I still tear up when I think about her and her Flat Coated Retriever sidekick who lived to 13 1/2. Edy and Birdie helped me raise my children.

Hard to imagine my collie getting old.

Thank you. That was the same experience I had. Once they sedated my little guy, he was so calm and his breathing was regular. I knew then it was the right decision. :hugs
We have two younger dogs. It will be just as hard then too I am sure.
