INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Sorry I've not been around much this year.

I am looking to rehome my three EEs. Two hens and a roo. If anyone is interested, message me. Also looking for some fun eggs to hatch or suggestions on putting Muscovy eggs under her. I have four broodys and lost the eggs in transition to a new house because three quit sitting and the fourth was sitting on the fakes. We moved her over to a different nest, but they might have been uncovered too long. If her eggs don't hatch this weekend I'm going to toss them, we're at 4.5 weeks.

What species is in the egg? If chicken, then definitely toss. Muscovies often take forever to hatch (more than a month).

I'd love to get back into EE... once I'm done moving which should hopefully happen soon... but we've been saying that for over a year. Swear this house is connected to Purgatory. As is, all my birds and accouterments are finding new homes tomorrow (if all goes as planned).

Time for some cute chick pics!

I really needed some quality chicken time today. Yesterday was horrible!

Due to our handyman's tractor issues, our lawn went over 2 weeks with no mowing. The guys finally came to mow the lawn yesterday. They didn't mean to, but when moving the chicken tractor, they put it down on Asha's head. (Asha was the 10 week old OEG chick that DD hatched from eggs she got for her birthday.) I normally move the tractor at night after the babies go to bed in the big coop, so they must have been pretty freaked out. Ironically, we use the chicken tractor to keep them safe. I did not see it or hear any squawking due to the mowing. Sadly it was DD who made the gruesome discovery. Yesterday was her last day of school. When she came home she went right to the chicken tractor to play with her babies. I was working in the garden & heard her screaming. Asha was the blue brassy back that loved to be rubbed. She would stand perfectly still when being pet and leaned a little into it. She acted more like a dog than a chicken. I just can't believe it!

I'm still a mess with emotions. I'm in shock & angry, but I also know it was an accident. Our handyman's a long time friend and I know he'll feel bad when I tell him about it. My kids are devastated. There were a lot of tears and I can't bring Asha back. DD was looking forward to spending today training them. The bantam buddies were all crying out for Asha at bedtime. DH was already exhausted after a long day & had to bury the body in the heat. Also, how come it's always the favorites?

I just lost my all-time fav roo, Mr Dummy. One of my orig hens, Precious, is dying (internally laying) and will have to be put down at some point. And now, poor, sweet Asha.

RIP Asha

Before all that, I had a good day. I was happy about the recent hatch (4 blue, 5 lav, 4 laced, and 3 black), was receiving emails from people wanting chicks, and got some stuff planted in the garden.

So, I worked at keeping myself busy and played with some chicks for therapy.

Sorry for being away awhile. Decided to go visit my uncle in upstate New York. Worst mistake ever.
Lost both my bucks to the heat because I trusted my sister in law to look after them. So we moved them to the barn, turned the fan on, gave them bowls of frozen fruit and veggies and misted them to cool then off. Everyone is doing better.
No more vacations for this mama.
Seems the season for beloved pets going to the rainbow bridge.
Chicks are good though, they're in a better spot for the heat. Oh and news too on Tank.
So the horses decided to knock down part of the fence where tank was. Brats weren't afraid of him! And he hasn't chased or harassed them at all. Been a few days and they're getting along great. So we left it alone and now he's wandering the horse pasture with them. Figures!
But he still doesn't like dogs. Lol.
So sorry for your loss. Great to hear about Tank!

It takes 35 plus days for scovy to hatch, I have had some go to 40!

Oh no I'm so sorry. Sad accident.

Loving all the pics guys!
Been super busy trying to get the garden in. I am trying trellises this year. Researched it all winter, really like how it looks and the benefits of it. The heat/humidity sure isn't helping. Animals are handling it well since we have plenty of trees for shade. Watching Pixie close. Her udders are getting bigger every day! My estimated calving for her is late June. Dixie is getting very round so I am hoping twins :fl
I had a hen randomly show up after Memorial weekend, she is a Golden Comet - ugh. Finally found out she is from a neighbor! They lay well, but every one I have had eventually egg bounds. One of the neighborhood kids moms sent her down here because she won't stay in their coop. She attached herself to my EE flock, and coops up just fine.
Forgot to add, if anyone needs manure holler! I have 2 mounds now composted, and am cleaning out buildings again very soon. My youngest calf KC seems to like the goat shed to poop in and has made a real mess. Fresh manure will sure kick start compost. Thread members are welcome to it free, just bring some buckets. Once its composted it goes on my garden.

So Ambrose and Kate fit in just fine with our chickens. Kiwi was the welcome wagon lastnight and checked them out. They all decided to dog pile (chicken pile?) on eachother when I checked them lastnight.
My phone decided to stay in central time for some odd reason so I got to see everyone in the morning light instead of predawn. Ambrose crowed (So cute!) As I got the rabbits set up for breakfast and the day. Hubby insisted they stay in the pen to get acclimated before we have them run the pasture.
Usually don't check the pasture til later, but all was quiet as normal for this hour of the morning. Jake and Penny were unsure last night but im sure they'll figure it out today.
New buns are doing good. Butterscotch is the smallest still. Then we have burrito, and two new girls. Haven't named them yet. Maybe I'll think of one at work while I'm being glared at for being late. Oops!
Pictures will come later when I'm home. ♡
For now, enjoy pictures of my new buns. Maybe help me name em?
The two I'm holding are butterscotch (the calico one) And burrito.

We picked up a rescue bunny yesterday. A Flemish Giant! We call her Big Bun.

Muscovy ducklings started hatching Friday, which was two days early. All four hatched by Saturday.

One chick under the ameraucana hen hatched, two days early. There are four eggs left to hatch. One is peeping, and the others are silent.

Will post pics later...

Congrats on BIG BUN! My fav breed!

Also congrats on the new chicks! It's always great when a broody does all the work.
