INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

but out of all my birds, the only ones laying are the 'useless' ones. I love your setup for them! I'm hoping to make a similar coop for my OEGs out of this old structure that's been out in the chicken yard for years now

x2 :lau

In the mini "useless chicken" coop, my silkie & serama are both laying. In the real coop, I only have TWO layers. My Leghorn started laying in August & hasn't missed a day since! (no complaints with her) Jewel, my big blue orp, is also laying her huge eggs - but not daily. (My cream crested legbar was laying but sadly she was eaten by a hawk two weeks ago.) The rest of the free loaders are either molting or later hatches who won't start until next year.

My Light Brown Leghorn was a very consistent layer, too. My Exchequer, not so much. Right now, I only have my one Mottled Cochin bantam, Vira laying. As it turns out, Marka, the only of the Silkie hens who was laying, is now broody, so no more eggs from her for a while. :he All of the large fowl, INCLUDING my Marans who hatched in March, are or have molted and quit laying. The two younger Dorkings haven't started laying yet, but they're getting redder every day, so maybe soon? :fl I miss having eggs and hash browns for breakfast!!

Speaking of eggs, I did use just one of the little bantam eggs to make a half batch of cookies today. I think they turned out pretty well. :love

A no work snow fort from the very heavy snow. The muscovies and Big Bun have enjoyed hanging out there. The bare spot in the front is part of an old foundation, probably from a garage that used to be here.

Wilbur has decided that Willow isn't so scary after all, and feels he has many things in common with her. Willow has been warming up to us. Geese are so smart, and I am sure they learn words and motions, like a dog would.

New to the site, glad to be here. We have 2 Khaki Campbell females that could use a good home... Our male peking ducks wont let them be. and our hen ISA browns dont love them either now that they are older... we would love to trade for a chicken hen or 2, or just find them a great place to be them... near columbus indiana
Welcome, @Clucks and Ducks Indiana ! I hope you find a good home for them.

Yes...... He's a puppy!
(Don't you just love all the untouched dog toys in the photo!?)

He learned how to open his crate in the 1st 24hrs. After a couple days, he learned how to disengage & pull down the baby gate barrier. He can nose open any sliding pocket door as well as the latch door handle to our bedroom. Now he's mouthing doorknobs.

His fav naughty items come from the laundry room & bathrooms. He can't resist TP, paper towels, paper in general, the dish sponge, & dirty socks. Now that he can open almost any door in our house, life is more difficult than when I had toddlers! He's just too smart! In the long run after lots of training, I'm sure we'll appreciate his intelligence. He'll be a fantastic family dog. But today, I miss our dumb, easy-to-train, willing-to-please, lovable mutts.

My parents had one hard fast rule, no dogs in the house, can't say I blame them.... cats on the other hand dad lost that to mom, but in the end we had some sweet hearts I think at worst it was a minor annoyance to him, but a couple of our cats he wanted them indoors as much or more than mom did....

Oh my, that's one of the reasons why we don't have a dog. Our last dog was a Doberman, and they also are very smart.

If there were to be another dog in our future it would have to be a solid black Standard or French Poodle.

I got an order of 3 day old chicks on the 23 of October. One was all but dead on arrival and died not long after. I had to put another down do to tendons on the legs slipping out of place. posibly do to a genetic defect. From what I have gathered I need some company for my remaining girl. I can't keep a roster or butcher on my property so a mixed purpose or egg laying breed of female would be preferred. If anyone has chicks that hatched out aound October 22, is preferable near my area, and is willing to part with one let me know and we can see if we can work something out.
Glad you found some!
@oldrooster I saw your post, but do not have any referral names I can share. I'm sorry your family needs the referral.

My notifications have not been working for a week. Anybody else's been turned off? Weird.
Yes mine too, i went and unchecked notifications, then rechecked.. now its working.
