Had a little scare this morning with the seramaxsilkie mixes. Mama hopped out of the nest box. Orp followed, but the 2 tiny ones could not get out of the nest. I found them cold & unresponsive/ lifeless.... but one may have twitched slightly. I brought them inside & warmed them with a hairdryer. I've heard of such miracles happening with cold chicks. DD took over while I went out to do the chicken chores. When I returned to the house, she was holding 2 peeping chicks. They are now inside with the silkie mama & serma chicks. The orp remains with her orig mama.

I'm still looking for another young bird. i have pemmy in my room and she makes a huge fuss when the lights are out now that she is alone. my mother doesn't want me taking the car to Chicago for whatever reason and my only lead so far is in that area

Wow good thing you acted fast! WTG saving those babies. Love all your pictures!

I'm still getting plenty of Leghorn eggs! Late winter hatching last March really paid off. EEs just don't lay well in winter. My BO, BR and Maran have slowed way down too but that's ok. The Cornish X hens are laying now, lots of double yolkers. I will do another late winter hatch early March. Dying to see how my EE rooster produces for us.
Mother Khaki duck is doing well, she wound up with 2 ducklings. Very good momma still trying to get a picture.
Our new cows have settled in well. The bull Zero, and heifer Frosty were both bottle raised. Elsa was not, and its taking her longer to settle in and gain trust. All 3 are extremely gentle animals. Elsa still backs away, so its been lots of apple slices and baby carrots for everyone.

I wanted to share with you guys an awesome Baby Monitor I came across a couple months ago! I have two units of the dual cameras and a third Unit on the way. They have a long range and night vision. I'm able to walk about 800ft from the cameras with the monitor and still get signal. I thought I'd share it with you guys because they are great for Coop Cameras! I don't think they are waterproof. But my husband and I have one unit setup as outside cameras (Front and back doors). They've been up in the rain, lightening, and now snow for almost 3 months. They are working good still. I have another unit setup in my toddlers room and the third unit is going outside in my dog's kennels.
They don't record anything, and the cameras can only be accessed from the monitor it comes with.
I paid $199.99+ tax from Best Buy. Vtech costumer service is fast and nice! My first setup didn't come with everything, so I contacted Vtech and they sent me a second unit free of charge. I plan to put another unit in my future Muscovy's Coops!

It's called "4.3" Digital Video Baby Monitor with 2 Pan & Tilt Cameras and Wide-Angle Lens and Standard Lens"

Hi everyone, just getting on to ask if any of yall know of a good chicken breeding resource book? i have a flock of 12 hens and 1 cock, all new hamps, and i'm wanting to start breeding them closer to the standard. So if any of you know of some good books that lay out the basics of chicken breeding it would help a lot! :D
