I was horrified to see ATHH's poor boy wounded by a dog attack! Thankfully, it wasn't worse because it sure could have been. I hope he is doing better. Also, I am sorry about Danand's chickens. It's even more upsetting when the owner has no remorse.
Chicken on the Loose in the Subdivision!
I must admit that I am an irresponsible chicken owner . . . today I was out with the girls in the side yard and noticed they had disappeared, so I went around the corner to the front of the house where they made a nice dust bath in the landscaping (!) Four of them were bathing, but Nene, my infamous RIR hen was missing. I looked in the bushes, etc. and happened to glance over and I saw her ACROSS THE STREET AND THREE HOUSES DOWN! Of all the neighbors, she chose the ones with the meticulously cared for lawn and beautiful flowers! She was pecking around like she owned the house. I ran down there and grabbed her, brought her home and put her in our fenced backyard while I herded the other hens in. As they were coming in, Nene ran out and up the hill towards the front again, so I had to run and grab her. Then, I went to the far back yard to get some of my lawn equipment, and twice she slipped under the gate and tried to make a run for it! We have chicken wire next to the gate so they can't slip under it, but it had been moved in my haste to get my stuff. Nene has always been so hyper and crazy, but so sweet and funny. I am really going to have to watch her though when I take her outside of the fenced-in part.
Danand~ I posted the last two cat photos. I LOVE the name of your cat- very distinguished! I also posted the birdhouse-- as a joke to EmSteele who couldn't get chickens to go up their ladder. You can copy the photo-- I don't even remember where I saw it.
