INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

whynot ~ Welcome to the Indiana Thread! Everyone is friendly and happy to help answer any questions, etc. We also encourage you to post photos of your flock or any animals, etc.

I was horrified to see ATHH's poor boy wounded by a dog attack! Thankfully, it wasn't worse because it sure could have been. I hope he is doing better. Also, I am sorry about Danand's chickens. It's even more upsetting when the owner has no remorse.

Chicken on the Loose in the Subdivision!
I must admit that I am an irresponsible chicken owner . . . today I was out with the girls in the side yard and noticed they had disappeared, so I went around the corner to the front of the house where they made a nice dust bath in the landscaping (!) Four of them were bathing, but Nene, my infamous RIR hen was missing. I looked in the bushes, etc. and happened to glance over and I saw her ACROSS THE STREET AND THREE HOUSES DOWN! Of all the neighbors, she chose the ones with the meticulously cared for lawn and beautiful flowers! She was pecking around like she owned the house. I ran down there and grabbed her, brought her home and put her in our fenced backyard while I herded the other hens in. As they were coming in, Nene ran out and up the hill towards the front again, so I had to run and grab her. Then, I went to the far back yard to get some of my lawn equipment, and twice she slipped under the gate and tried to make a run for it! We have chicken wire next to the gate so they can't slip under it, but it had been moved in my haste to get my stuff. Nene has always been so hyper and crazy, but so sweet and funny. I am really going to have to watch her though when I take her outside of the fenced-in part.

Danand~ I posted the last two cat photos. I LOVE the name of your cat- very distinguished! I also posted the birdhouse-- as a joke to EmSteele who couldn't get chickens to go up their ladder. You can copy the photo-- I don't even remember where I saw it.

Old rooster- I kind of told him that 2 weeks ago when I warned him. And then told the sherif I would if they were on my property again, the sherif said I had a right to do it. Which I ill ready knew!! The owner said go ahead shoot them!!! And doesn't care!! Nothing like a neighborhood fight to get the blood boiling!!
Wow that dog owner said to go ahead and shoot them if they got on your property. Shows how much of a human he isn't. Sorry about your chicken loss.

AATH, so sorry about your 7 y.o. son. My son just turned 8, so I can relate to your anger. I'd want to take out the dog immediately, then sue the owner. This happened on your property?

After a late night chatting session about FF, I did make a note how miffed everyone would be loggin back in to 90 new posts the following morning.
I play in a pool league Wednesday nights... Logged in mid afternoon and got a ping at league in my email for a message so I figured I would scope out the updates on the Indiana thread... Around 30 or so.. What the heck. Giving up pool so I can keep tabs on the thread.

Sorry about your chickens. My 7 yr old son got mauled by a pitbull two weeks ago. It was horrible. Unfortunately he was at a friends house so it took them a min to get the dog off of him... I wish I would have been there to kill that dog. I bet you feel the same way!! Maybe you should just keep throwing chocolate to the dogs... For a treat..... Muhahaha

I am sorry to hear about you boy. Breaks my heart to see something like that,

Our neighbours had two dogs they left chained out 24/7. One got off and ran after my boy when we were getting out the car. He panicked and fell over running away, dog jumped on him... distracted by my sons shoe that had fallen off during that and took off with it. I chased that dog to my neighbours house, removed that now badly damaged shoe and stormed to the door. They were not home, naturally. So I promptly googled Animal Control and reported a vicious dog with a brief description of what happened. next day, both dogs were gone.
Same friggin idiots have a new dog they let out the back door into an unfenced yard. I can not let my dogs (which I put onto a chain to go potty) unless I check to see if the neighbours dog is out.
I dread the day that dog comes onto my property, especially if my boys are outside. I will shoot it.

Oooh, Or chocolate covered grapes. They like those too :D

On another note... darn you for wanting Sebrights now. I recently put mine on Craiglist for free... Of course they are now gone... ugh. They are about beautiful breed.
