Well... It seems this joke went over my head, lol. I was born on the other side, in NC. On another note, I just went and spent some quality time with my chicks, haven't been able to do it in the last couple days and DH has been taking care of them. They grew up! I was preparing to introduce my 2 (or 3, can't quite remember!) week old Silkies to the rest of the flock, but it now I'm scared! The banties are only slightly bigger, but my god, the LF are huge! About the size of a crow. I knew in my head that they'd get big, but I guess I never thought it'd happen! Makes me a little sad. And boy, I've been covered in scratches the last week and couldn't figure out why. I'll tell you why! Chickens have TALONS. They all flocked to me as soon as I brought out the cracked corn and mealworms and made me their junglegym. Ow. And one of my Roo has decided that he needs to peck my eyes. I never thought I'd say it, but sometimes I wish I knew a place that'd process chicken for me! But then he'll sit on my hand as sweet as can be. I can't figure out what his business is!

Had a blonde moment. I was on here looking and saw everyone posting about storms, and I got to thinking "Oh wow! One passed over me today! It's so weird that everyone else did too!" And then I remembered.....we all live in Indiana.

What is fermented feed and why is it fed?
This is just awful! When fees started to be instated around here, I thought it was a great idea. Too many people will give a dog up to die because it's easier than finding a home, and the fee definately helps cut down on that (though it may ultimately end up skyrocketing the dumping rate, who knows.) but that's just awful that they would make a person pay AND THEN SEND OFF THE DOG. Does this country even have morals anymore!

Oh, and I saw something that should be funny to most of us! I was in Lowes getting some stuff for my coop and garden. I saw an isle of grass seed and a display of different kinds of fake grass. It is called SynLawn. The were listing a bunch of "pros" about why I should buy it. "It's safer for pets, no pesticides!" "It's better for kids, no allergens!" "It's fire safe!" and the best, the real kicker "It's more ecofriendly! No pesticides or fertilizers!"

Really? Plactic, non biodegradable PLASTIC is more "green" than real grass? ARE YOU KIDDING ME????

HAha... Thats it, buying you a bottle of L'oreal hair dye to fix that....

in the southern half of the state we have Kentucky Jokes, like some people tell jokes about Blondes or Pollocks, we have Kentucky jokes. like there where two farmers whom had an on going feud one on either side of the river, one night they where shouting insults at each other and the Hoosier yelled a challenge and the Kentuckian said he would take him up on it but he would have to cross the river had no boat and no bridge for several miles, and he couldn't swim. So the Hoosier said he'd turn on a flashlight and allow the Kentuckian to cross on the light beam the Kentuckian said he wasn't dumb enough to fall for that, half way over he said he knew the Hoosier would turn off the flash light....

Is it bumble foot?  Not sure I spelled that correctly, but Leah's Mom knows a lot about taking care of it should that be the problem.  If the bottom of the foot looks like there is a large pea or marble in it, then that could be your problem.

Not that I know of but I will take a look at her when we get home. Thank you for the suggestion.

Wow, this is a busy place. Don't check in for a day or 2 you get way behind! I use my phone and it doesn't always cooperate. Anyways.... this morning our dogs decided to get the chickens. Idk why? They have never tried before. So I lost 3 buff orp hens. And the hen turkey that took me months of searching to find. I have only had her about a month. :( it sucks loosing a bird to anything. But its the worst when its bc of one of your other babies. I'm so heart broken! I just needed to whine and knew you all would understand. Thank you for listening.

Wow I'm really sorry. That would be so disheartening!

Hi Everyone!
I think I need help. I'm so new to chickens that mine should be worried. They are 8 weeks oops and still living in my basement. Their house is a 48" dog crate with an attached 2x5.5' run that I keep very clean. They have food, grit, fresh water, scraps, and petting daily. Today I went down to see them and muffin (on my avatar) is limping. She (I hope) sits around with her legs to the side kind of on her own. I took her outside with me and she just stood with me and then curled up like a cat on my lap. I can't see anything specifically injured but I know that something isn't right. She just kind of flops down. Should I separate her so that she gets some rest alone? Their coop is about 1 1/2 weeks from done so I can't move her outside yet.

Be sure to check the pads of her feet, she may have a sticker or splinter. I do think you have a hen, she is beautiful!
Quote: Thats the good stuff for ACV, if its not a spoiled smell, its ok, Mine is a sweet, sour almost pickly smell. I dont really know if theres a time limit if you are taking out and adding new daily, my batch is the same from last august I think.

I know exactly what you are going through. Not only has my bouvier gotten a couple chickens that had flown over the fence, but she also got ahold of my african grey parrot! I only blame myself as I forgot to lock him up when I left for work and he got startled by a perch falling down and flew off his playstand. I was heartbroken whrn I came home to find the lifeless body of my parrot.

Hopefully it wont happen again and if your close by id be more than happy to give you a couple week old buff/possible lemon cuckoo chicks. Obviously it wont repkace the birds you lost, but they are here if youd like them.

I am so sorry. It is a lot harder when its your own dogs.

I got the mowing done! Yay, it only sprinkled here. I watched it downpour 2 fields away as I rode that cub cadet like my life depended on it. I know what you mean oldrooster! We grew up north of indy, and it's definitely "different" south of indy. They even say we talk funny :p. I may have a hen starting to go broody hooray! The last few days she has been puffing up when she's in the nest. How can I encourage her? I really want to have one hatch for me.
