Yes, Jersey sings the egg song, too, even though she does not produce an egg. Her behavior could possibly be an instinct to actually keep her Head of the Flock position (and not be viewed as an over-the-hill hen) or she could just have a strong instinct to lay. I added a previous post (above) that explains more about my mystery hen. If anyone has any insights about her behavior, please let me know.""She pretends to lay eggs" lol. Funny the things you learn about chickens, I didn't know they would pretend to do that. Does she do the laying song also? I have never heard a laying song before, but we will somtime this August. Our chickens are 10 weeks old now, they start laying around 20(?) we've heard.
thank you. I have read and reread everything I can find on incubating including your link. I waited impatiently like you suggested actually a little longer than the 12hours. Long story short I had to help it out. It had absorbed all its yolk everything went well. The chick is eating drinking on his own etc. But he has a crooked leg. Its turned in instead of being straight. As long as it continues to get around eat nd drink we will continue to love it.Wait at least 12 hours before you help.
If the chick is healthy it will be okheres a link with a lot of fantastic info on hatching:

That looks like the healthful foods I feed my hens, but I couldn't be that selective if I had a larger flock. Mine love blueberries, but not strawberries. They love grass (we just sodded part of our yard today!), but when I've offered them organic field greens, they have not been interested. They definitely have opinions-- about everything!

Kiniska that looks good enough for my breakfast!!!!![]()
LOL, funny how that empty next is filled with imaginary eggs! My guinea hen prissy did that for a while.I have a little broody old english. I get that look alot! Iv not checked how manys under her but i noticed that she would get out of the nest my buff would go lay an egg in it and the old english would go back and sit on them? Maybe they have some kind of agreement? I had a buff that was sitting too. (Unfortunately she was 1 of the victims of the dogs) she had sat like 2 weeks and didn't have a single egg under her? I think maybe she was just pretending to keep the roos away? Lol does anyone here have raise sell or know someone who sells antwerp quail chickens? Iv been thinking about just ordering some from Mcmurrays? Their minimum is 15 and I don't want that many.
has anyone heard of a frizzled golden seabright? or is this just a really bad hair day? several feathers seem to be twisting around and sticking out.
Also both the supposed golden seabrights comb areas are turning reddish and one of the "d'uccles" is too
