I love the red and white coop, I keep showing DH and he gives me the "honey-do list look"Some pictures of them out of the run. They like climbing on the spare straw:
Here are some pics from this AM. Really nice chilly 41* sunshiney morning. Happy Mother's Day, everyone:
I planted a variety of sunflowers on the outside of the, around the end away from the coop. Even some 'heritage' sunflowers, wonder how they will look.

WOW pipd all 4 of my roosters would be falling over each other right now! If they heard that they would go nuts! OHH soooo going to put that on my phone as a sound wave for tomorrow
and ya, I spend way too much time with my chickens.... the boys all stand guard when their girls sing the egg song. Flat out RUN to the coops when they hear it.![]()
No,but I have been frenzy panic mode like you are, I had one incubator past 3 DAYS LATEok, i am freaking out!!! day 21 for my chicken eggs in the incubator, i guess technically it isday 21 til this evening but i haven't heard a peep nor do i see a pip in the veiwing plates!! this is my 4th hatch this year and the 8th hatch ihave done in the last two years. eggs were candled on the 14th day and everything looked good. i know i am over re acting and i have told other to be patient but i and FREAKING out. usually my incubator runs a little warm and i have chicks start hatching on the 20th. my temp was a little loswer than usual, 99.5 at the top of the eggs, when i try to keep it 102 since mine is a still air but this has really got me worried.
ok now that i have typed in a frenzy, i can see my panic and deal with it. i'll keep everyone one posted.
question have any of you ever had a whole incbator of eggs not hatch?? especially when i was pretty sure i had this all down pat, i was thinking of myself as a semi pro!and was sure they were all dead. I started candling, and heard peeps! figured I lost em all. It was still a fair hatch like 70% but not as good as usual. It was during that windy bad cold spell and I have a drafty/unfinished house. The last 2 chicks both had leg problems, so I will not start as early next year, unless we get the house done by then.![]()
I am almost afraid to go look at it. But I will.... All the stuff i see, and learn convinces me more to raise all our food.Wow I was reading a rather gross article about why there is no animal protein in chicken feed. It's rather disgusting I'm glad I know where my milk and beef come from.

I wouldn't read it if you are easily grossed out like my wife. If she read it she would never eat out again.
The cold killed one of my white frizzles and my black sizzle over the night. I had them closed up so the cold wont get to them as much but with them still getting their feathers in again, i guess it wasnt warm enough for them.I want another sizzle!!![]()
My thoughts too is place chicks on the floor, and food/water sit and wait. even suspend a heat lamp..Good luckOk guys! I'm panicking right now. I checked on the chicks this morning and Annabeth is missing! The garage has been closed up tight all night do I don't think anything got her. I think she escaped the brooder but I can't find her. It got quite chilly last night and I'm worried she got to cold wondering the garage! Any tips on finding her?!?!
Ya a
Quote: I have heard of an impacted crop, sounds like that's whats happened. try a lil olive oil too in a dropper.good luck![]()
They are all just beautiful. Hopefully rehoming the roos will work out well if you have to. Be sure to check out the byc swap trade forum when the time comes, maybe there's some that can be swapped for hens and have a great home..
Last pic wow, that's one evil deadly broody stare... I see bit fingers and arms if you go near thatI have had a mallard hen sitting for the last 2 days now. I noticed last night I couldnt find her anywere then i looked behind a board that laying against the barn wall in their run and there she was. I left her alone and just went out to see how she was doing and she was still sitting there so i stuck my hand down by her and she did NOT like that one bit. So i am now wondering how many eggs she has under her. I hope she stays on them with this colder weather here. There is a little opening in the wall behind the board that is outside. These pics are taken from inside the barn. The opening is to small for them to get threw.
Last night

The pekins are eating and doing well, understandably scared. They are by the pond in their own enclosure next to the geese, and they sure know the pond is there! I wanted to let them out with the geese badly but will wait a week or so. They crawled under that horrible big "uglybush" by the house and hid, so I waited til dark, and my DD and I moved them. I want to be sure they realize this is home and their boundaries before they free range with the big group.
Awwww! I bet your little girl is enjoying the "lead goose" role, your kids are just precious! That lil tough guy gosling I really think is your gander, he is pretty defensive. If the hatch doesn't go well be sure to let me know. My geese eggshells are pretty hard, so be on the watch in case you have to "help", holler at me if you run into trouble! I have had 3 that couldn't get out on their own (both my brown chinese goslings, and Paddy)
WOW on the bloody-ish egg, I haven't seen that yet, if no one posts info we can go over to the medical/emergency thread and post. that sure sounds very odd! I would be concerned for the hen too.
JCHNY2000- I tried it passed along with one other that showed no ailment.
I had 10 silkies 11 cuckoo Marans and 10 turkins I've lost only the 6 white silkies no blacks and no Marans or turkins.
I'm stumped because the pastey butt was mainly the Marans and 2 black silkies that are fine. The only white silkie left is the cross beaked pirate with one eye (Who is now named Capt. Jack). Except for the one that had held on all week none of them showed any visible sign of illness and died quickly over night or while I was at work I'd just check on em and there was another one![]()
