The game trail camera is a digital camera that will snap a picture of anything that moves and save it on a SD card.  The photos can be viewed on your computer.  Each photo will have a time stamp which will show you the date/time when the photo was taken.  If you see that it is a chupacabra that comes by at 3:30 each night, you can be waiting for it with your trusty .22 and discourage it's return on subsequent nights.

Another option is a have-a-heart trap that you can get for around $30 at TSC or Rural King.  The .22 will discourage it from returning on subsequent nights.

lol a chupacabra that is haliourious. And i know quite a few people that own a 22 and would sut out there and shot it.

CCCCCCCCCCCCC, 30 or so years ago, I had about 80 pheasants pinioned and in a fenced chicken yard. The were nearly full grown. Every morning for several days, I would go out and find several dead with their throats ripped open during the night and no blood pool. My Dad said it was a weasel. I sat out behind the chicken yard in my pickup truck one night to wait for it. I fell asleep, but was awakened by sudden silence. I very carefully and silently sat up, then surveyed the area. I could not find a weasel anywhere, but eventually noticed that one fence post was about 18 inches taller than all the rest. It was a great horned owl. At the time, there was a $500 fine for harming an owl, so I chased it off. It kept coming back. I couldn't afford to cover the whole chicken yard, so when I was down to about 30 pheasants, I butchered them and had done with the whole affair. The chickens in the hen house were not harmed.

CCCCCCCCCCCC, I no sooner sent the last message to you than I heard a pack of coyotes yipping out in the field. I would guess within a few hundred yards of the barn. I went out to see if I could sneak up and startle them with a flashlight and a handgun (not to kill, just to scare: can't hit anything farther than 20 feet away), but, in retrospect, probably should have put a dark shirt on over my white T-shirt. White T-shirts are not the best camouflage.

Probably didn't make any difference. As soon as I looked out the back door of the house, they shut up. This means they were within eyeshot of the house. Not more than 500 feet.

I checked and the chickens and ducks are locked up tight, but the guineas are in a chicken tractor with only 1" chicken wire enclosing them. No trouble for a hungry coyote. Fortunately, my Labrador Retriever marked the area several times today. I may have contributed. I am told that will deter coyotes. Kinda icky, but I am told, effective. If not, I may be sharing your problems.

Maybe you're confusing CountryHen with me! Will you have any extra BLRW? (I'm assuming this stands for blue laced red wyandotte?? -- I'm new to all the abbreviations) My daughter not only wants the quail (& guineas) but wants BLRW also -- she doesn't realize we're running out of room in the barn!

so I have a hen that is broody. she has been sitting on an Easter egg for about 3 days. I think I am going to let her sit but I have a full incubator of eggs for chicks. Has any one ever set duck eggs under their broody? What were your results? I'm sure it can be done, I just feel sorry for the hen in advance since she'll be chasing ducklings trying to get into water!! I hope to get my duck eggs tomorrow from a neighbor and set them. Really looking forward to anyone else who has done this.

Sooo, funny chicken stories!!

I went down to my brooder today, my hens are getting quite big! It was dark, the heat lamp had become unplugged (they are fully feathered, so they don't really need it. But they're in such a big pen I use it as a light.). As I approach the brooder I see a huge, two pronged looking claw. I thought it might be some sort of shovel or gardening tool, but as I look closer, IT MOVES. I promptly freak out, and then realize my two friendliest hens are perched on top of the brooding box. I need to get the coop finished! Or at least get some perches in the brooder until the coop is done! Darn my lazy husband!

Does anyone else's roosters do a funny rooster dance? I thought mine was having convulsions. He puffed up, arched his back and started twitching his head. Then the other one did it. I will have to take my camera down to capture it, it is literally the funniest thing I have ever seen a chicken do.

my buff orpington roo dances. I think he has a fighting dance and a mating dance. He wont fight but if another roo gets close to his hen he does this funny little feet shuffle if they act aggressive back at.him he runs screaming lol then he has a diffrent dance he does when he's chasing hens around. I had a banty (idk what kind?) I called happy feet. He reminded me of tje penguin in the movie his feet were always moving but he had no hens he stayed by himself but It was so funny. He would shake 1 leg then kick the other he had a little routine and would do it while he was eating or standing. Iv not found another 1 like him

Umm, the chupacabra will need something way bigger than a .22 according to the legend. I'd say a buffalo gun.


Anyway, all these people here talking about the mountian lion in IN, I saw that story with the photo evidence I think about 1-2 years ago in Greene county. Also some reports in Clay county. However, nothing since then. I think it was roaming the area and left. I don't think Hoosiers are ready to share their land again with those big cats.
