Thought I'd put this out there for those around the Columbus area...

Would anyone like duck eggs for eating? I always have extra. Usually just hard-boil them and feed them back to the flock or break them into the compost pile. Our neighbor's dog loves them hardboiled. Yours for the asking, if interested. Just PM me

NOTE:
  • Although these are fertile eggs, they come from a young mixed flock of pets. If you want them for hatching...

  • I don't usually wash them until I'm ready to eat/use them (unless really soiled), so they come the way I gathered them.
  • I do gather them every day, but they may sit on my kitchen counter for as long as 2-3 days before I refridgerate them if I'm short on cartons.
  • As with all my eggs (chicken or duck) I recommend you first break the egg into a separate cup/dish to inspect it before adding it to your main dish. Rarely have I had to throw one away, but it has happened, and this step save ruining a whole bowlful of ingredients.

Hi fellow Hoosiers! I've been away from BYC for a while and so just discovered this new Indiana thread. Good! I'm in southern Indiana, close to Louisville, Ky. My chickens are like me - wimps when it comes to these cold temps we're having right now. On the bright side, at least it's sunny today! Stay warm!

Oh teach1rusl I love your coop, looks like plenty of room in the run also. Do you cover it for the winter?
Thanks Crafty! I keep a mixed flock - the only thing I have more than one of are my easter eggers - have three of those. Oh, and I do have two silkies, one red and one blue. Plus I keep a small flock of seramas. I like variety! I actually have three coops - so I basically have a coop town...lol. With the exception of the seramas, I mostly free range my chickens. But yes, I do screw tarps along the north and west sides of the run in that coop. I use those clear sheets of roofing material for windbreaks on my bantam coop's run - that's so much easier to put up (and more durable) than tarps. I'd love to use that on the big run too, but that stuff's $$$. Some day...
So when you go to "the city", do you generally go to Lousiville or to Indy?
