Just candeled my eggs and 15 are developing just like they should be. It looks like 2 or 3 have blood rings.2 or 3 that havent developed at all so I assuming are quiter but won't be taking any eggs out until 10-15 days (this is only day 5). And 6 i'm not quite sure about yet but I will probably candel again on sunday and see if anybody has developed more. So far everything looks to be going great for shipped eggs. I have a couple of screwed up air sacs, but that happens with shipped eggs. The one that have blood ring have screwed up air sacs and like 2 maybe 3 others, but am hoping they will hatch fine anyways.

Even though I am not an expert, I think your red pullet is a Golden Comet. Anyone else think so? I've only had chickens a year and I have been nuts ever since. My RIR, Nene, (who looks similar to yours except for the comb and tail feather ends) is a character! She is so nosey about everything and has to be right in the middle of whatever is going on. While my other hens retreat when a visitor comes, Nene is right up in their face as though she's asking, "Who are you and why are you here and shouldn't you be leaving?"

yes that was pretty much what i was thinking, is that she is a golden comet. Even though she was the smallest chick, she has turned out to be the head hen. She is always very inquisitive, greeting me at the door first when I bring feed,always the last one to say goodbye when i leave. I love her little personality!!!

My garage looked like that for about 3 years lol, i was "busy" (aka lazy). I have two huge barns and a shop conected to one. My biggest barn is going to be full of chickens soon.Andd there are 3 bays to the other one. one on the left, one in the middle, and the one on the right is where the shop is. Well I moved everything from the garage to the middle bay. And poorly stacked it, now you can see a section of my barn floor lol. I will get to it eventually.....maybe.

ours is filled with everything we "salvaged" from our old house. we have slowly been going through it but it will take a while. i doubt i will ever be able to park my car in there though. every time we clean up a little space we ether fill it with farm equipment or more chicken cages. speaking of chicken cages....

here was today's project. i made 4 of these 16"x16"x16" chicken crates to use for transporting chicks and chickens to swap meets. i will be making 4 more tomorrow.

I have decided to sell half my flock. No not downsizing just going for more exotic breeds. I also want to get more colors of Silkies, Polish, Marans, Crested Creme Legbars and others. Im going to start breeding out for more frizzles and going to experiment with breeding different breeds to get mixed traits.

My blue Cochin is still sitting on eggs cant wait till they hatch!

Sorry about the losses on the subject of organic grain I was told by the local feed guru feed mills won't mix organic grain very often because in order to be called organic there can be no medications inside the building. According to him your best bet is someplace that mixs horse grain. horses are so touchy with meds many grain mills don't do horse feed.
I've also been told organic and free range don't mix so do your research before deciding on full blown organic

what colors of silkies do you currently breed and what colors are you wanting to start breeding?

The only colors i have now are white. Except 1 partridge chick. I ordered 3 but I received 1 partridge silkie and 2 partridge cochins. I want to get blue, black and more partridge or pretty much any colors.

YA I won't ever be able to get a car in the garage. I could If inreally needed to, but am okay with my car getting rained on etc. But when it isnt hot out instead of putting my dogs in a cage I will put them in the garage if I have to run to town real quick or stuff like that. Works better for me because they dont go to the bathroom in their but do in cages. But it is to hot for me to out them in their anymore so I just let them run around the house when I am gone, against my better judgement but they havent done anything bad yet. And those cage are really cool. Good jpb building them and the fake chicken is halirious, the only thing that would of benn funnier is a rubber chicken lol.I bought a cage that hold about 10 chickens, but I am sure will have to buy another or build some, because I will be taking more than 10 chickens to shows. And I think when I start going to the show in Lebanon I will hatch a bunch of chicks to take with me and hatching eggs, because you can sell chickens while you are there but you have to pay like 25 dollarsor something. But before I start thinking about that I might want to actually get my breeding program going lol. I should be able to do that next year but not this year.

I’m sure that everyone is tired of me saying, “I only have five hens,” which indicates my strength and willpower of not caving in to buying every chick I see unlike our thread members. HaHa However--- because of peer pressure and pipd’s relentless posting of "adorable chicks doing this, adorable chicks doing that, etc., etc.," and because of vickichicki's taunts, I am going to add two new girls. I’ve posted these thoughts before, but am getting close to acting upon these maternal urges. Since seven hens will be my absolute limit since I live in a subdivision, I am planning to get "fancier" (more expensive) breeds. I need the discerning eyes of BYC members to help me with my first selection...

I am planning on purchasing a Jubilee English Orpington Greenfire Farms line pullet from a BYC member, chickenridge (chickridgefarms.com). Since I’ll be paying $60, I want to be SURE I am getting a pullet. I’d love to have a baby chick so I could challenge pipd with cute photos, but it will be safer to purchase the 5 week old.

I'm so jealous! Jubilees have been one of my favorites! The pics are too small for me to see on my ipad so I can't help with sex. But I am VERY jealous lol.
