INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

For weeks, I've been through an ordeal from looking at hatching eggs to chicks to now I'm planning on purchasing a Jubilee Orpington and a Lavender Orpington pullet this week. Oh? Have I mentioned it to DH yet? No... it's all about the timing. I'll tell him that my dream has come true and I found two more pullets to lay eggs! I won't mention the cost or that I need to come up with a quarantine place! He doesn't need to worry about all the details. : - ) I wonder what the divorce rate of BYCers is?
I've been wondering the same thing myself!!

After the little bantam roosters I brought home this week started in at 5:30, it started running through my head. I might not be ready to own this many roos yet, but I keep telling myself that if I insulate the coop, it will help tone down the sound first thing in the morning. After we are all up, its no problem at all.

Both of those are on my wishlist. I hope you post pictures! Also on the list are a Speckled Sussex, Wyandote, Black Copper Maran, and an Ohio Buckeye. Since I brought the little guys home, I should probably wait until another year or I might find out too soon about that rate you mentioned.

Good Morning Everyone.

Good Morning! Here on my farm my coops have automatic doors that open at 6am so I hear all my rooster crow first thing outside. No coop walls to insulate. I have alot of roosters too.

Anyone have any purebred cockerels they would like to get rid of? We are looking for a couple for our pullets that will startvlaying in july we have 40 so need at least 2 more roos and dh wont let me pay for any since we give our extras away :)

Ok I have what may be a stupid question lol I have buff orpingtons and old English. My old english rois are after my buff hens all the time and I had convinced myself that they couldn't really breed them bc of the size difference and the fact that I didn't really want to hatch buff old english mixes lol well my old english started getting broody and in all my excitement I never thought about the possibility that the buff eggs could be mixed chicks. 1 old english hatched 1 of her own eggs and a buff egg. Now that the babies are getting older the buff baby is starting to get white on its feathers. AHHH Lol is it possible its addy is an old english? The hen belongs to my 6 year old who thinks its hilarious and has informed me that since HER hen hatched that baby it also belongs to her and she doesn't care what it is she's keeping it and hopes its a hen so she can have more babies :( lol plus there are 2 more bantu hens sitting with a total of 7 buff eggs between them. So possibly more mixes :/ maybe I need to just build a coop for her mixed breed chickens? Lol and start throwing fits until my chicken yard gets done so I can seperate them like I had planned on. Lol

Ok, I got the photo shoot over with. It took awhile since there are 5 BLRs that look like chipmunks, I had to stop and study them and the pics I had already taken...That was a brain game for sure!

This is my brooder which is basically inside the bigger pen which I would say would be my 'grow-out' pen- when they grow out of the storage bin, they will go into the pen until they can go outside in the coop that isn't built yet...ugh. The coop is in its planning stages. I found one from a member on BYC that I really like. We are getting our yard marked for utilities this week so after that, we can start putting in the run and coop posts in the ground.

I like this picture-- I didn't notice until after I took it that one of the SFH was looking up at me :)

Here is BLRW #1. Her? name will likely be "Treasure"

Here is BLRW #2. No name yet

Here is BLRW #3. No name yet

Here is BLRW #4. No name yet

Here is BLRW #5. No name yet

Here is Splash BLRW #1. No Name yet

Here is Splash BLRW #2. No Name yet- it is a fur ball though!

Here is SFH #1- It has partridge type of wing feathers coming in. No name yet

This is SFH #2. Its nickname is Penguin (by DH) but it will be changed, no matter if its a pullet or a cockerel. DH was playing helicopter mom and freaking out over me taking the pictures...

And finally SFH #3, nickname Stripe (by DH) but this also will be changed. I have a gut feeling it is a roo. I took a close picture of its comb. It is very dominant and pushy but curious too.

I don't think they'll be free, but will probably be an amazing price-- English Orpington Jubilee cockerels. I was going to get a pullet from them, but everyone voted that it was a cockerel. She already had 4 cockerels that she needs good homes for. You can contact her if you are interested: ChickenRidge chickenridgefarm.com

I will have some extra, They will be GLW, possibly Lavender Orp. Maybe a silkie, and a seabright. I may also have an EE roo or 2.. When I get breeders sorted for next year will give you a holler.
