INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Husband took me BACK to Orschelns today (he loves the buff orpingtons I snuck home!) We have another Ameruacana (probably EE with a gorgeous "beard") and 8 assorted feather leg bantams! Got one black silkie and one salmon fav in the mix!!!
i need feed for my girls...i must resist the temptation to bring anymore home!!! I also bought two ameraucanas pullets from orschelns. One is starting too get her beard, but her legs are not the true slate color. The other has no beard, but does have the right color legs. If they EE, i think i will still keep them because at this point i have crossed over from someone who thought about meat birds to someone who keeps chickens for eggs and as pets.

Question: I saw the pictures of the baby RLBW and i googled pics of what the adults would look like and now i must have one(or two)!! my question is, what colors of wyandottes are bred together to achieve this blue coloring? if anybody has any that they know are pullets i would really, really like one with sugar on top!!!!!!

the BLRW are their own color, however blue does not breed true in poultry. So when dealing with BLRW, you are really dealing with black laced, blue laced, and splash laced red wyandottes. Depending on what colors you breed together will determine the colors of the chicks. Example: if you breed blue with blue you will get 25% black, 50% blue, and 25% splash. Black bred to splash will give 100% blue. Black to blue will give 50% black and 50% blue.

Depending on when you want a chick (or three! Lol), I maybe able to help you out. Mine are only the day olds posted the other day. If your able to risk getting a roo, I am thinking of getting more eggs to hatch and can sell an unsexed. Or if I'm lucky and overran with pullets, ill let u know in a few weeks.

Well my DH leaves for a month for work Monday!! Wonder how long orchlens will have chicks? I'll drive by one after I drop him at the airport!!!! And besides they'll be almost grown before he gets home!!! Wwwwhhhhhaaaaa......he'll never know!!! I meant to take pics today of my newest, they're soooo cute. Will do it tomorrow

Major thanks to Brad, I am now a chicken owner! I don't have pics yet- I will try tomorrow because I am beat.

I have 3 Swedish Flower Hens and 7 Blue Laced Red Wyandottes- so 10 in all...

The SFH are a few days older than the BLRW and one can tell the difference. One SFH seems to be dominant but some of the other ones are fighting back. They are all eating and drinking (as far as I can tell) and hopefully I got the brooder rigged up so they can be comfy for a few days at least. My DH has already sneaked into the garage to check on them since we got home a little after 7. I already made two quick covers out of hardware cloth and we had to buy a 100 watt bulb cause the 250 was way too hot for them.
Chicken TV is already broadcasting. My DH has nicknamed the dominant SFH as "Stripe" like the Gremlin from the movie and "Penguin" is one of the other SFH because it has the dark and light markings. He did say I can name them whatever I want but I kind want to wait to see what happens before I go and name them.

BTW, I am so glad everyone is okay, including the cat and the rooster! :) Everything is okay here, not much rain today so DH will have to mow again in a day or two. haha!

This is something I would try to do! Can't wait to see pics of yours!

M2H better watch out-- a flood of cuteness will be coming soon from both of us :) (and more from Pipd, I'm sure)

Brad forgot to mention, all my black GLW chicks are the "chipmunk stripe" look. Hope that helps... I will post a picture so you can compare.
