Well my DH leaves for a month for work Monday!! Wonder how long orchlens will have chicks? I'll drive by one after I drop him at the airport!!!! And besides they'll be almost grown before he gets home!!! Wwwwhhhhhaaaaa......he'll never know!!! I meant to take pics today of my newest, they're soooo cute. Will do it tomorrow

For weeks, I've been through an ordeal from looking at hatching eggs to chicks to now I'm planning on purchasing a Jubilee Orpington and a Lavender Orpington pullet this week. Oh? Have I mentioned it to DH yet? No... it's all about the timing. I'll tell him that my dream has come true and I found two more pullets to lay eggs! I won't mention the cost or that I need to come up with a quarantine place! He doesn't need to worry about all the details. : - ) I wonder what the divorce rate of BYCers is?

First guinea chick is out, lively lil baby! Waiting VERY impatiently to be able to take them out of the bator! It almost looks silver with white skin.. I need to PM peepsCA and ask her about color genetics

Since mine were give ups from last year, the owners didn't offer much detail about where they are from etc. Pretty sure the pearl should be dominant over the white...?

Major thanks to Brad, I am now a chicken owner! I don't have pics yet- I will try tomorrow because I am beat.

I have 3 Swedish Flower Hens and 7 Blue Laced Red Wyandottes- so 10 in all...

The SFH are a few days older than the BLRW and one can tell the difference. One SFH seems to be dominant but some of the other ones are fighting back. They are all eating and drinking (as far as I can tell) and hopefully I got the brooder rigged up so they can be comfy for a few days at least. My DH has already sneaked into the garage to check on them since we got home a little after 7. I already made two quick covers out of hardware cloth and we had to buy a 100 watt bulb cause the 250 was way too hot for them.
Chicken TV is already broadcasting. My DH has nicknamed the dominant SFH as "Stripe" like the Gremlin from the movie and "Penguin" is one of the other SFH because it has the dark and light markings. He did say I can name them whatever I want but I kind want to wait to see what happens before I go and name them.

BTW, I am so glad everyone is okay, including the cat and the rooster! :) Everything is okay here, not much rain today so DH will have to mow again in a day or two. haha!
Congratulations! "Chicken TV" is so true! One thing that I really regret about when I had chicks a year ago March is that every book we read recommended not handling the chicks very much because "they're delicate and can get stressed, etc. etc." Since we were first timers, we followed the directions and now I look at pipd's interactive chicks and realize that I could have made Internet stars out of mine-- well, probably not, but I could have played with them at least.

Exciting! I want to live at your house where there is always something going on! Why are babies always born in the middle of the night? Ha! I wonder if the guinea chicks "cry" like the adults... they should be funny to watch as they grow up. Hope you get some sleep tonight!

the keet is doing an adorable little trill sound, reminds me of when Quasey and Loppy had first came here at 4 weeks old. Loppy had badly deformed legs, and didn't seem to grow, but she was a sweet little girl. I have the other 2 pipping internally so am just waiting

I betcha Sugars little baby will be born late at night too! I just know she is expecting, oh my, her belly is huge! I sent a message to the breeder asking when she may have bred with the buck.

Thanks for the advice. DH asked about handling and I told him that giving them the first night to get used to their new digs and each other is no big deal but after that, we need to hold them and talk to them etc a lot. I think that part of it came from reading BYC because I recall reading the same stuff you did in the books I got.

Ours have good instincts already- I was leaning over and looking at them and when I sat back, my shirt got caught on the hardware cloth and all 10 just froze. It was neat to see them doing that.

Once DH gets up, I will do a photo shoot with my nice camera and hopefully get some up close and profile shots.
