INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Wow... I just read through 1000 posts... ok more like skimmed lol.
Welcome to the Newbies :)
Danand~ idk about those millies. Weird how they did that and haven't died. Another note... our eggs are due to hatch today :)

I promised in an earlier post to put up some pictures of my watering system. So here goes.

You can't see from here, and I forgot to take a pic, but I have a gutter on the back of the coop, it dumps into the 5 gallon bucket, so when it rains, I don't have to fill the waterer. I need to get a lid and cut a hole for the downspout to stop algae from growing in the bucket.

From the bucket, the water goes through the hose to 3/4" pvc. The chickens get water through the saddle type chicken nipples that snap onto the pvc pipe.

I put in a 'T' so that I can have both exterior and interior pipes.

Here is the interior pipe. Chicks are Blue Laced Red Wyandotte (head down), Egyptian Fayoumi cockerel, and White Faced Black Spanish on the roost.

Here is a video of the waterers in use: Starring: Silver Duckwing Old English Game pullets, Dark Brahma pullet, Dominique (not sure of sex yet), Black Faced White Spanish cockerel, Welsummer hen.

Love it! This is almost exactly what I was thinking, except we are using cups instead of the nipples. It looks like you use a PVC pipe for feed as well? I am all for low maintenance. Love this!

thought I would show off some of the newest hatches at the house. hatched 6/4/13 there are 16 of them. still have 15 eggs in the incubator working on their way out.

they are out of either a Dominique rooster crossed over mutts or a Buckeye rooster crossed over moor mutts!! prettiest chickens around! no offense to any one else.

Mine are prettier.

Of course that could be the proud momma coming out.

The more I research, the more confused I get. Wish I could post pictures here! Would help SO much! Estes Hatchery finally told me what both of my bigger mystery chickens are supposed to be but I'm not sure how they could be them! Can Marans (I'm guessing black since they didn't specify) and Welsummer chicks be COMPLETELY black?

I don't know how anyone on this site can be of much help to you without pictures, but I do know that Black Jersey Giant chicks have a white belly and bottom. This changes to all black as the chicken ages. They are now 3 weeks and most of the white has been replaced with black.

I also was confused and thinking they were low-quality mutts until I looked it up on the internet and found pictures of them as chicks and as adults.

Try these links:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/products/welsummer
https://www.backyardchickens.com/products/marans

These links were pretty easy to find.
At the top of this page that you are looking at, (scroll alllllll the way to the top), you will find a tab marked "breeds". Click that. On the subsequent page, choose the breed you are interested in. Click that. Voila! Information.

I hope this helps.

Welsummer chicks should be brown chipmunk striped, not black. I don't think I've ever seen a completely black chick, so I'm not sure what they could be. Pretty sure black Marans are black and white as chicks, though. :/
