INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I use my phone for Internet right now and have tried EVERYTHING to upload pics but no go. I have some pics on instagram and have some chicken lovers guessing.
I have some pan fry grabs that are possibly Jersey Giant. We should know soon! Very pretty birds!

Welsummer chicks should be brown chipmunk striped, not black. I don't think I've ever seen a completely black chick, so I'm not sure what they could be. Pretty sure black Marans are black and white as chicks, though. :/

That's what I thought too. I've had a terrible time with Estes Hatchery. After this last brush off email, we will not be buying chicks from Orschelns again, ever, unless they change hatcheries.

Rest in Peace ----- Rooster Cogburn 2012 - 6/4/2013

Please remove your hats and bow your heads for a moment of silence in remembrance of Rooster Cogburn. He was a valiant and intrepid member of the neighborhood, loved and respected by (almost) all.

He met his demise by being viciously attacked and murdered by a pack of coyotes during the night while he slept on his usual roost in the barn. When his owner went out to the barn and found red feathers scattered around near Cogburn's roost he then took the ATV out into the field and found a bunch more feathers and one foot.

D*mn! He was an ornery old cuss, but I liked him. Shirley, 4 houses down will be heart-broken. She had adopted him, fed him so much that he never ate anything here.

I bought 2 more live traps and have set them up in the barn with a chunk of chicken meat under the trip pads. If I catch some, I'll let you know. They will be given a fair and impartial trial before being found guilty and sentenced to death. I intend to give them pistols with one bullet and let them do the honorable thing, the murdering b*stards.

Love it! This is almost exactly what I was thinking, except we are using cups instead of the nipples. It looks like you use a PVC pipe for feed as well? I am all for low maintenance. Love this!
Yes. for the feed inside the coop, we use 4" pvc. They can't pull the feed out and dump it on the floor, and it's too slippery to perch on. Stole that idea from a coop I saw in Indianapolis and elsewhere.

Do any of you have the small cup style water systems? Like this one http://www.jordan-farm.com/index.php?main_page=popup_image&pID=3
I bought one and am getting ready to install it. I see all these nipple watering systems now though.
I've never used them, but I am thinking about getting some. I have turkeys in the brooder that will be coming outside soon, and have been told on another forum that they don't do well with the nipples. I'd hate to have to go back to those nasty waterers. I also would like to hear if someone on here has used the cups and how they work.

Sad to hear. hope you can thin the pack down. We have a large pack down here that swings through our property every couple of weeks. Whenever I hear the howls, I can't help but go check and make sure the coop is secured.

he looks like a RIR. Would you want another one? I have a production RIR I need gone. If not, is there anyone who wants a RIR rooster?

Lastly if no one wants him, is there anyone who wants to come and butcher him? I would pay to see how to properly butcher a chicken. I'm thinking I can't keep this roo until Johnny's picnic. Speaking of the picnic is there a date yet?

Poor Cogburn! That just breaks my heart. I swear, I wouldn't normally hurt a fly, but if the coyotes start coming after my chickens my shotgun and I will be set up right outside the coop waiting for them!
