INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

jchny~ Another handy resource to post is the link to Indiana DNR - Nuisance Wildlife. http://www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/2351.htm
The site has lots of good info about various animals as well as info about permits and licenses.

I'm not sure where the best place is to post this, but Nuisance Wildlife is a topic that unfortunately keeps popping up on the thread.

Did I miss it or were owls left off the list?

First of all, hugs to all of you who have lost birds to predators lately. I know how devastating that is.

On a lighter note, a story I gotta tell: My BIL wanted some cappuccino mix in his morning coffee and asked my sis where it was. She answered that it was in a container on the counter. He also adds an unbelievable amount of sugar to his coffee/cappuccino. After he drank it, he complained that it seemed gritty. As it turned out, he had doctored his coffee with two teaspoons of DE that she had for her hens! She told him that at least he doesn't have to worry about worms for a while.

Grabbed a quick photo of the run at lunch. We've dug out a foot deep trench to bury the 1/2" hardware cloth. The run will be completely enclosed and the chickens will be able to go under the coop for shade when confined. I'm planning on painting the door as well, just haven't gotten there yet.

Yesterday the chickies got free of their "brooder" pen, and knocked over a lamp and started a fire. Luckily, DH caught it and none of the chickens were hurt. We had to put them in the garage while we got the last wall of the coop up, and one of the roosters fell in an oil bucket. I've got the majority of the oil out of his feathers, but he's still a weird color. I hope it doesn't hurt him.
Glad those scary incidents did not end badly! Guess Mom and Dad will have to baby-proof the place. : - )

How long does a henstay broody???? And can I put baby chickens with her to make her not so broody??? Big Mama is being broody and has been for maybe a month sitting and cracking eggs cuz she's so fat she's so broody she wont get off her nest to eat when I pick her up to go eat she sits on the ground and pecks at the ground then I have to nudge her to go eat any ideas to get her not broody anymore? And what makes a hen broody??
