INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

That's why all my chickens are named "Chicken". It saves confusion. My dog Millie has been called "Dog" so many times that when the word gets used in normal conversation, she perks up her ears.

Ha! Okay so now I have 10 "chicken" lol.My dad does the same thing with dogs.He also refers to them all as hes.

HELP!I have never seen a chick like this before. It dosent have splayed legs or anything it is like it grew the wrong way at its joint or something. It was hatched like this but I just realized it.Is there anyway to fix this?

here are some pics

this is how it stands and lays.

Grabbed a quick photo of the run at lunch. We've dug out a foot deep trench to bury the 1/2" hardware cloth. The run will be completely enclosed and the chickens will be able to go under the coop for shade when confined. I'm planning on painting the door as well, just haven't gotten there yet.

WOW! That looks wonderful! You have some lucky chickens. : - )

I'm finally getting pics posted of the quail Brad hatched for my daughter. We picked them up a week ago Saturday & they were so tiny! They've probably doubled in size by now. She's named them all and supposedly can tell them all apart. ;) Thanks again, Brad, for hatching them!! :clap This is Jack -- short for jack in the box because he kept jumping off her hand. Chester -- reminded us of chestnut color Godzilla -- because every flock needs a Godzilla Buttercup -- the odd yellow colored chick Cookie Dough -- because it's a fun name! Pipsqueak -- because it's so tiny (but then again, they all are!) Who knows which are male & which female -- she figured most of the name will work for either or she'll adapt them -- Jackie & Chesterina!
they look great! I have the rest that were supposed to hatch from the first batch for you (or should I say Chloe lol).

So some good news/bad news. First the good. We got our first egg today, should be from a leghorn.

This girl could be the layer. Also, her boyfriend has started some crowing.

My son told me today that he has some bad news. He said this rooster was standing on one of the leghorns, trying to swallow her head from behind. He said he chased him off and scolded the rooster. I guess boys will be boys at any age!
I love that photo-- and your son's description! haha

I just pulled the trigger and ordered chicks from Cackle Hatchery in MO. I'm getting ten pullets - five Black Australorps and five Easter Eggers. *gulp* I'm limited to six hens since I live in the city, so my cousin is taking the extra four when they are ready.

I don't think that it is fixable. In other words I think it is a special needs chick and a mother chick would most likely not keep it alive for long. Sorry. I could be wrong. I would post pictures in the emergency section and get more opinions too.

I agree. Looks like one of the Marans I hatched out earlier this year. It only got worse so I ended up culling the chick.
