I'm betting a hawk must have taken her. They aren't old enough to lay yet. Must have happened quick since my husband was outside with them most of the day. I kept saying if anyone was going to get eaten it would be her. She was always wondering farther than the others. What a crummy day.

Sorry about your chicken.You might want to build a top on their enclosure if you havent already

WoW! It did that with you right their. I have a BB gun near by when I am feeding and am going to be out their a while, just for such occasions. I know it probably wont kill it but it would scare and or injure it which would be good for me and my chickens. I have a live trap out by my chicken coop and I have caught 9 ground hogs and 3 racoons in a week. I relocated them. I know ground hogs dont hurt the chickens but they hurt my yard and garden.Besides they should like where I moved them better because it is by a creek and has tons of places to hide and plants to eat.

So I must have the worlds only EE polish. Dumb thing got lost and couldn't find the others so she was hunkered down in som tall grass. DH and I looked for at least an hour and I happened to see her while looking out one of our windows. Dumb bird. Back with the others safe and sound.

My neighbors and I have an understanding about protecting our chickens. We've had a few hawks go "missing".

We're actually working on the run. During the day the chickens have free run of our property. The run is more for when we are out of town so we don't have to worry about them.

Besides the kids looking like the rooster, they look NOTHING like a turkey. lol
I like to think up dialogue for my flock, too. It's easy to tell what they're thinking. haha

Nice idea about the skunk oil! I am amazed when people leave their animals in the house when they move-- just unbelievable. Similar to the people who dump their exotic pets into the wild. They just want a quick fix for the "problem" although they are the real problem!

Let us know about the missing chick. Seems like one of those big turkeys could step on one.

Well I found the missing chick. It was inside the hutch. He did not make it

I am guessing he was squashed sometime overnight. I would think even with turkey chicks that happens. They are just so big.
Staying positive with the other chick. He was following mom around, running to dad, mom trills and he ran back to mom.

Ok guys I really need some help. I trued posting this in the correct thread but have got 0 replies. I have done tons of reading but am having no luck finding answers. My poults are dying and idk why. Thursday evening I noticed poo that I thought looked odd so after an hour of looking at poo pictures decided it was normal. The next day I had a dead 1

none had acted ill they were all eatinf and drinking just fine ect. I took the remaining chicks to their day pen not an hour later another died. More research still clueless but decided to add electrolytes to their water and a tiny bit of DE to their food thinking if its a parasite that would take care of it. Today they are all very active but 1. But he's eating good drinking just fine and not excessively. But their poo has changed drastically when I cleaned the brooder this morning and took them to the day pen there was solid white poo puddles didn't really look wormy though. And the other poos looked like the pile I was originally concerned about. I wish I would have taken pics! I gave more electrolytes today. But I'm kina at a loss as to what to do bc nothing I reqd or seen looks or sounds like what I'm facing. This is the first time I've lost any birds to illness or disease and I don't want to loose more.does anyone have any ideas what this could be based on my horrible description?

Some things may have been explained in earlier posts but I missed them. I read everything, does not mean I absorb all of the information.

Where are the poults kept during the day, I see you mention the day pen... Is this outside? or a pen inside?
How old are they?
How many are together?
How long have you owned the chickens in question?

Might be able to figure something out from there.

Haha.. I think you should be allowed to ground your chicken until she promises not to do it again. Glad you found her though

Most certainly is. They are covered by the Migratory Bird Act
