INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Make sure they can't be found on your property. $5000 fine, even if someone else has shot it and it flew onto your property to die. Conservation officers need no warrant or probable cause to come onto your property and look around for potential violations.

I have heard of people who would drop problematic carcasses over a remote bridge minus the fingerprint laden plastic bag to avoid this situation.

John
That's some good thinking for someone who has never had this trouble.

Male overload! I have a good number of male silkies/hard feathered showgirls as well as some silkies I don't want to breed due to lacking a beard or wrong comb type. I took a few pictures of the older birds. Will work on getting pictures of the younger ones soon. Ill note which ones are available below, pm me if interested.

Anyways here they are:
Buff Boys approx 16 weeks (available)

The Partridge Family and The Oddball (the oddball lightest beardless silkie is available). These have just been separated from the naked neck hens and showgirl studs as they were getting trampled and plucked.

I love the first partridge, but hope "her" light skin won't be an issue for breeding. Obviously I'm not looking to show but would like to produce nice looking birds. I think she looks unique with the lighter skin.

I think I have at least a blue silkie with a straight comb and another hat is a very light blue/lavender cold that also has a straight comb that will be available.

Just had to introduce my partner and I to the world of chicken surgery. One of my welsummers came down with bumblefoot. We were gone for the weekend, and when we came back, I noticed her limping and saw her foot was swollen. So I caught her and when we had her wrapped up and upside down, we found out not only was there a big black scab on the swollen foot but one on her other foot as well.

Sooo, an hour and a half later (and much consulting a BYC thread on bumble foot - I don't know what we'd do without BYC) We have completed surgery on both feet, and she is now in the recovery room. (hospital pen) She is walking around with her feet wrapped up, and doesn't seem to be having any issues.

I will have to say, now that it is over, it was actually kind of fascinating in an 'Ewwww, that's disgusting'
sickbyc.gif
kind of way. It's raining and getting dark now, so I don't have any pictures of her and her fashionista booties. I'll try to take some tomorrow.

To keep her company in the hospital pen, I decided to grab one of my young pullets that is showing all the signs of laying, but with no eggs yet.....sigh. I put her in the pen with the Welsummer, with the thought that if she was laying them in a secret spot, she is now in a confined area, and I'll be able to find any egg she may lay. Killing two birds with one stone, so to speak.

Has anyone here had to deal with bumblefoot? What should I be watching for now?

I know that animallover's "Ms. Frizz" had bumblefoot when she got her at a swap meet event. Leahs Mom knew a lot about it and sent animallover a training video and instructions. Both of us sent animallover some supplies to do the surgery, etc., which was successful because of animallover's talent. I'm glad your girl is doing well post-surgery!

As usual-- good news/bad news on this thread!

pipd~ Wonderful photos as usual. Your flock is looking more adult now. They're a very interesting and beautiful collection.

bradselig~ Yours, too, but in a fuzzy sort of way. ha I have a very fluffy orange cat that reminds me of your first group pictured. This one looks so soft and cuddly, but if looks could kill... lol.

Too Fast~ HaHa We all pay dearly for our special, delicious eggs, much more than any of us ever thought!

Old Salt posted: At 68, I'm getting old. Getting smart was what I was hoping for. And rich.
But John~ 68 is the new 48! Think like a young salt. You're smart, so you just need to work on the rich. haha

Em Steele~ Sorry to hear about your little chicks! I'm sure you did everything you could. As we've learned on this thread, anything can happen.

Ducks are really stupid. I got them a plastic kiddie pool to replace the inflatable one they quickly destroyed. I put a ramp on it so they could get in (it too tall for them otherwise). They walked around it while trying to get in it. I stacked some some 2x4 blocks to act as steps. They walked around them. Same thing with stone blocks. They walk around them, they stumble over them. They do everything but use them. Dumb ducks.

When I had ducks they werent very intelligent. I got them a plastic kiddie pool and didnt even bother tomake steps.I figured they would eventually figure it out and if not then I guess they wouldnt swim lol.

Old Salt~ Your ducks are saying, "This guy doesn't even know that ducks swim in a pond or a lake! Does he think we look like human toddlers?? Oh that's right, he does because I heard he had plans to walk one of us at the fair!" LOL-- just giving you a hard time. : - )

Latest Fashion ~ Rooster Shoes! HaHa

Rooster shoes, it's the latest fashion! They look more like Hot Wheels shoes, flames coming off them like that. She is so hot, her shoes are on fire lol.

And the duck picture continues to amuse me.
