INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Hello fellow Hoosiers! I am in Lafayette. Finding my way around chickens and BYC. Loving this new adventure.

I am looking to add some EEs to my flock. Ideally laying hens. If you are in the area and have some you are wanting to part with, please let me know.

Also have a Red Golden Pheasant Cock who may be looking for a new home. Beautiful bird I just do not know if I can give him the best life.

Thank you.
I am in Lebanon. I would love to have a Red Golden. I have good facilities in which to keep him. You could stop and visit him anytime you go to/from Indy.

Please PM me.

John

Question about feed.....I just read that you are supposed to have feed available for your layers all day long. Well, all my birds free range from 8a-9p daily. I give them feed usually in the afternoon. Should I change my feeding plan?
There are so many different opinions... I feed my birds in the evening when they are called in from free ranging. This works very well, and I can do my headcount.
The best part of keeping chickens is they fit into our lives well. As long as you provide fresh food, water, and dry shelter they will be fine. They also like routine, decide on a plan and keep it regular. you will do just fine

Quote: Oh best stuff in the world is UNpasturized apple cider vinegar! Good probotics, add it to their water like a tablespoon to a gallon. It also prevents algae growth in duck or geese pools.

No large breeds, My parents are elderly and live with us. Dad thinks he can still play with them, and winds up falling. We have a little pug mix (rescue dog) and plan to get an Aussie soon for the livestock.

LOVE all the new coops, and updates on the babies!

Oh my goodness that sounds like so much fun!!!  I must go!!!

If you decide to head up to west central Indiana, I can give you a ton of ideas to make your trip into a mini vacation....Turkey Run State Park, Covington Beef House....those are just a few great places to visit near Veedersburg.

Regarding Sand: I just called my local gravel pit that has delivered stone to us before. They have washed sand for $10.70/ton. Now there is a delivery fee, BUT that is an amazing deal considering I just paid $13.99 for a 50# bag from Menards.

Finally, I have finished painting the inside of the coop. What you can't see in this view is the vent that runs the length of the roof for circulation. There is a 15" shelf above the window for holding the shavings or other chicken stuff. The roost is about 18" off the floor and the floor will be covered in sand when its all done. There is another freestanding roost that everyone seems to like better, but I took it out while I was painting.

There is a cupboard under the wall flap for small stuff so it stays clean and the "barn" doors open for cleaning.

I'm still not done with the nesting boxes, but they are just wash tubs I found at target that will have shavings or something soft inside. We still haven't got the lid on correctly, so for now its just holding small tools. I'm keeping it covered when the chickens are inside.

That's all for now, but its so exciting to see it finally coming together. The end is near. If you have any suggestions or see something I need to fix, please let me know.

Hi everyone! I'm from Porter County, Indiana. I have 15 chickens and 3 ducks and right now I'm stranded inside the coop because its pouring out here. I knew I should've brought and umbrella.

I'm selling a bantam barred rock rooster, a male Saxony duck, and a female saxony duck. If anyone wants any of them please PM me.

I am also looking for a welsh harlequin female duck and a Cayuga duck if anyone is willing to part with them.

My hubby was SO excited to come out with me to check for an egg yesterday (he usually couldn't care less about my animals) At first we thought we didn't have one, then he pointed to a brown blob on the roost and says what's that? :( our second egg didn't have a shell and was broken.
