INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Hello I am located in NWI, Chesterton to be exact. We purchased our home last summer and the first thing I wanted to do is build a coop.

Tons of free wood from a haunted house on Craigslist, Windows from the side of the road, old door from our house and we ended up with this beauty! Order my first order of day olds(13) from MY Pet Chicken and they arrived healthy and are thriving Dec 10th. Second order (15) arrived earlier this week and even cuter than the first batch, also from My Pet Chicken. In addition I have 24 Catdance Silkie eggs in the incubator. ahhhh.

Chickens have been a welcome delight to my everyday. Even the early morning trips to the coop to say hello, give warm water and listen to their stories. I have become a chicken addict it's official! Definitely joining this group, look forward to seeing what everyone else is up to. Chickens I currently have are Australorps, Silver laced wynadottes, Blue laced wynadottes, Easter eggers, Buff brahmas, and blue splash marans. Later this month I will hopefully have tons of SQ silkies (which I will have to unload some once old enough to sex).

Welcome!!!! So glad you have joined us!

Welcome! Beautiful coop! Very jealous! Glad to hear you are happy with mypetchicken. I'm ordering from Meyer's this year and they fullfill MPC orders.

Yes, same deal for us, my hubby and i both are avid shooters, so i keep a rifle on me at all times. When the red tails got interested, we fired a few rounds every time they would fly in. I rarely see them now.
Stray dogs got my bottle baby goat a few years ago. That's the worst predator we deal with here. I learned the hard way to be prepared.

My turkeys are coming from meyer, they have the BBW i want, planning mini white and blue slate too.
Can't wait! If i have extra toms in the blue slate i will see if cluck would like one. Feel awful losing their tom

its a real pain, they are covered under federal law. Even buzzards are protected

it is called the "Migratory fowl act" I covered my coop run and plan to do the rest as they get built. If they are out free ranging, i am out with them, and my geese, rooster, guineas alarm the second they see something in the air. Shoulda seen them the day an air balloon went over

Yea I heard a lot about them drop shipping I just liked that I was able to purchase sexed chickens because I didn't want tons of roosters and also they vaccinated for Mereks. Some also say they rent space with there own stock in Meyer. Can tell my babies are not SQ...my SLW have the iridescent in a few feathers like a australorp got in the mix somewhere but their personalities are very calm and sweet so I don't mind for layers. The silkies I didn't get from there because my 10yr old will be showing them for 4H. We have a 25 tree orchard in the backyaed so I will just be happy if they take care of the bugs and enjoy the fallen fruit :) As far as my Pet Chicken goes they were pleasant and worked with me so I am pleased so far. We finished the coop early Dec and I wanted chicks and wanted them now haha so they were the only ones with a variety of breeds to choose from that didn't req 25min.
