INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I am building a bigger brooder tomorrow. All 16 baby chickies are doing great, and eating like little piggies! I have a breezeway between the houses that is enclosed and heated. Large area they can still be warm, but will give them more shoulder room. Hope to do pics tomorrow once its done

Hi all from Brookville, Indiana. our family has 28 chickens, 26 hens, two roosters. most are mutts that came out of my original speckled sussex's, golden comets, columbians, and gold laced wyandottes. my wife thinks i'm chicken crazy and even crazier for wanting to set up the incubator right now. so to avoid world war three i will wait until spring( and no later that march 21!!!!) nice to see an indiana thread going. i'd like to be added to the member's list
Hahaha chicken math!

Na we aren't crazy, just want a lot more of a good thing!
I wanted to say, I love Brookville lake, we are out there frequently during the summer. I love fishing for big striper bass! We have a lot at a campground over in Liberty. Love the area, so pretty and people are so wonderful, polite and kind. Have you been to the poultry show in Connorsville yet? I hear its usually quite big, and lots of chances for swapping information, and meeting fellow chicken lovers! I will start posting dates on events as soon as I get the newest Poultry Press.
Everyone, be sure to shout out if you know of good poultry events in your area, we can add them to the events list.

Nice! there's a bunch of pretty cool ideas on the pallet coops. Ugh its melted here a little. My guineas finally tried out the snow today.
They came out doing that chih chih noise, flew around and perched on the house roof. The little necks were stretching to the moon! They decided they were scared and flew right back to the coop..

Be sure and bundle up!! It wasn't bad here today at all, i just got my carhart coveralls and a hat on, stayed pretty warm.

Where are good places to pick up buckets? I really need to try this.

I have RIR and some Cali Whites ( leghorn hybrid supposed to be mellow and they are ). I am thinking of some Barred Rocks and maybe a few polish for the flock in the spring.

I have one BR and she is an excellent layer. Nice sized Xlarge egg almost daily. I want a few silkies this spring, I just love how tiny they are. The little roos have an adorable crow!

i haven't been to the poultry show, but i have heard that it is quite interesting. yes the lake is very attractive here, but for us locals we stick more to the river it seems. there are some really nice canoe-ing trips that you can take in the area. you'll have to check them out this coming summer

I have been outside working on another Chicken/Turkey Coop. Here is a few pics of what I have done so far today. It will have a slant roof, that's why the back is shorter than the front.

Does anyone near me be willing to trade a black white crested Polish rooster for a black white crested hen? He is getting picked on to much by the others and they are pulling out his head feathers.
