INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Cluck acres~ what are the positives to fermented grain? And do you have to buy special grain for it?

You can use any grain food you want even corn. You can ferment any feed for just about any animal. Fermenting your grains is supposed to increase your protein by 12%, increase the absorption of your feed nutrients, increase total nutrient value, increase bowel health, increase laying performance, help prevent disease~particularly the intestinal ones like cocci, salmonella, e.coli, lower total feed consumption and thus total feed costs but will cause more weight gain on the lesser amounts of feed. It will make your chicken poop smell better as well so your coop wont smell as bad.

Hi all! I am in Indianapolis, Indiana and I want to get started on chickens but can't seem to find any for sale here in Indy. If anyone has any for sale let me know and yes I know this is the wrong forum for this. But it wouldn't let me post in the buy-sell-wanted page.

But it is good to know that there are fellow hoosiers on here. On my other groups I am the only one from indy

Ashley in Indiana.

I have seen some for sale on craigslist. I might be selling some of mine in the fall. Have you decided what kind of chicken you want? TSC and Rural King typically have them in around Easter.

Any ideas why my chickens won't scratch in the coop but will outside. I'm trying the deep litter method and my chickens won't scratch or turn over the different layers. Yet they dig deep holes in the yard and scratch up large patches of grass. A couple of the holes were large enough for the hen to sleep in and be below ground level.

Had a suprise on the front porch this morning a skunk! he was as suprised to see me as I was to see him, how do I know, he was so scared he turned tail and ran off without spraying, and yes it was a skunk and not a black and white cat....
