INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

RE: STOLEN LAVENDER ORPINGTON CHICKENS I am so glad that jchny2000 shared that craigslist posting about the stolen lavender orpingtons! This is a great opportunity for our Indiana group to help. I made a flyer based on the craigslist information that I made into a pdf so that it can be printed on home printers in a better resolution. (I just noticed that I can't add a pdf on this site, so a made a higher resolution jpeg.) I also made a lower resolution web version jpeg for posting on Facebook, websites, etc. I texted the number on craigslist and asked permission to post all of this, and I told her about our Indiana thread and gave her the link. I checked out where Cambellsburg, IN is, and it's near several of our members including Columbus and Paoli. It's not too far from Louisville, so I am emailing a flyer to my sister who lives there to spread the word. No telling where someone might take the flock to be sold or if they keep them, but since they are a more unusual breed, maybe that will be beneficial in people noticing them. If we all --no matter your location in the State-- print out a few flyers and post them at feed or pet stores, auction places, public places-- wherever you think would be a good place, maybe we can help find them. Another plus if we all "flock together" is to show thieves that we aren't going to put up and shut up--- we are going to notify as many people as we can. Let's make this "go viral" and catch these vile thieves!!
If you all need I can post some in Corydon Indiana at the feed stores. Hi by the way! I live near Marengo and will have English Orpingtons.

I would love to have the campine but would feel bad since it was your only one!
No worries there. I'm not going to buy any more campine eggs so its going to be my only one. If you have "use" for it, take it! No need to feel bad, I was he one hat offered lol! If you do want it, just let me know. You don't need to rush to get it. One more beak to feed won't hurt here lol. Just next time your around the area get in touch.

I sat down tonight and figured out what breeds I'm going to keep in breeding pens and what will be my free ranging flock. I'm going to have silkies, crested legbar, jubilee orps, chocolate orps, isbars, and possibly rhodebars and Mille fleur leghorns in breeding pens. Those are enough projects to work on for now. All others I have will be free ranging.

Ok you talked me into it. Out of 4 chicks hopefully there will be at least 1 roo. When times comes and I get eggs from them I can give you some or I can hatch them out for you if you would want to add them to your breeding pen.

To Kiniska, Welcome to the Indiana Thread, and yes, please post flyers in your area and add info to your FB or any other method of getting the word out.

To Jchny2000: Do you know if there is another good location to post the flyer on the general BYC site so others can see it? Besides Louisville, other Kentucky cities like Henderson and Owensboro aren't that far away if the thieves wanted to sell them where they think people might not be looking for them. I'm no expert on crimes like this, but it seems like it would have to be professionals who knew they wanted a certain breed and knew how to quietly remove 10 hens and 2 roosters. It's just so bizarre.

Jchny2000: Just "fyi" this is what I said in a PM to Nifty-Chicken:

Hello,
The person (jchny2000) who started our Indiana thread, which is hugely popular, posted a disturbing theft that she happened to see reported on craigslist. I'm attaching her post and my follow-up. We're wondering where this information can be additionally posted on the general BYC site where "breaking news" is reported...would that be the "Emergencies" forum? It would be helpful to have some sort of "Amber Alert" (or "Lavender Alert") type of section so members can be on the lookout for thieves trying to sell stolen livestock. I know this sounds dramatic, but informing a great network like BYC about a theft can be a deterrent to thieves who find out that communities have been alerted.

Thank you,
Mother-2-Hens

Jchny2000 and Indiana thread members-- It does seem like a good idea to have a crime alert section that people might regularly check, as opposed to putting urgent information in a random forum. Maybe I am over-reacting, and this type of crime doesn't happen often...I don't know since I'm not an experienced member.

Overreacting, NO! The birds taken are rare. They are becoming very popular! But that's not what bothered me the most. If it was a flock of barnyard mix birds I would still be LIVID

Its horribly wrong. We all work hard at caring for our birds. That's why all of us are on this forum, we CARE about them too. If we didn't at least try to help, I would feel even worse about it. Bottom line, we chat on our forum to help keep our birds healthy, safe and productive. They are loved and treasured, for some our livelihood too. I see no reason this can't be a topic to help to resolve.

Im going to help these people out im printing out 5 a couple will go to my dads store and the rest at RK and TSC.

but really who would do this its basicly haveing someone kidnap you child. its just not right
