Last night i checked on chicks and 1 of them has splayed legs and I had wrapped them. Well anyways that chick was laying in the water dish soaked. His head was out of water and dry so that was a good sign. I thought at first it had died. I picked it up and could see heartbeat so i took it and turned on my incubator and put the little chick in it for awhile to warm up and dry off. Well within 10 min it was pretty dry and standing back up and chirping. This little chick is alot smaller than the rest plus had splayed legs. I was thinking this is a god blessing. This little chick has it rough. Today it is still doing just fine. What I think happened was when i refilled their water dish they all went to get water and the little one got knocked down in it and couldnt get back up because its legs. It only has 1 leg that is really splayed it just about sticks out sideways but the other is just fine. I hope this little one pulls threw it.

Glad ou found it in time! I found when I used bandaids, they had a much harder time walking. Vet wrap seems to allow them to walk better since it stretches. It is also MUCH easier to take off when needed to

Thats what i use is vet wrap.

Do you guys vaccinate your hatched chicks at home for merek's? I have seen the vaccination sold at TSC, but looked like a bottle of about 1,000 doses. Does it go bad? It would take me forever to go through all of it

I vaccinate. You have to use it all within an hour after mixing it--obviously I never use all of it. I don't just do day old chicks though; the pathologist at Purdue diagnostic center told me that it was only tested on them but that you can vaccinate at any age. Any new birds that come through here are vaccinated before they're allowed around any of the others. I wait until I have several to do but no more than I can do in a hour. It's worth the $20 to keep Marek's out; I've had chickens who contracted it, and it's fatal and highly contagious. It can be carried in on people from swap meets or even from wild birds.

Orloff are definitely on my to get list. While I'm in no hurry for them in the next couple years I'd like to get a few.
Are the coronation eggs from your birds or did you purchase them?

Hi there! I saw Russian Orloff chicks at TSC in Seymour yesterday if you don't want to mess with hatching eggs. They had a whole tub of them. Super cute and FAT heads!

Just wanted to let the list know that there is supposed to be a swap meet at the fairgrounds at Martinsville, Morgan County, Indiana on March 30th at 10 am. I will be bringing several exhibition quality birds and breeding stock to sell.
