INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

400
hatched yesterday

Doing some cleaning this morning. Ran across the papers from the company that has the waterer cups. Cornerstone. Since everybody's been talking electic poultry fence , they carry it. Not sure where everybody else has got theirs. 42 in high by 100 ft is $129. Not sure how that compares to others.

And my DH wanted a peacock! I had said no because I knew how big they are. But if they would help protect the chickens I MIGHT give in( its not a hard push)!! But my neighbors have some, male and female, and if I let mine free range will they just go live with hers. Hers are not free. But we can hear them very well at our house. Ideas? So how prone are they to take off?

As I am using my phone I can not see where everyone is at, but Dinky's aution normally have peacocks and peahens. Last time I was there they had a male and female white peacock (?) Sold for $20 the pair. Blue male peacock $20. Peahens were almost given away. First time I have had to have some self control there, who would not want a pair of white peacocks?

I read the posts about peacocks keeping hawks away, and I happened to notice this ad.
My neighbor and I both have been getting hit hard by the hawks in the past month! I bought her and I both fake owls...which when I put mine out my entire flock took off yelling and ran into the woods to hide!! LOL It was too funny...but...We then had about 3 hawks all scoping out the property Saturday and I ended up with yet another hen missing! Even with the dog outside most of the day and me too...didn't even notice til the night come lock up time that she was not around! I was talking to DH about maybe we should look into the whole peacock thing to help us with our hawk problem. He said he thought they were really mean..? I haven't a clue...anyone have experience with them? Will I have issues if I were to bring an adult male into our flock?

Ok...so crazy but DH yelled for me cuz he counted and she's back! Now how weird is that! So...she went missing Sat...yesterday I only let 3 of the oldest girls out hoping she would come out of hiding if that's what she'd done and no girl all day! I ended up letting all of the others out this morning cuz they hate being cooped up...and poof there she was! Soaked...but all in all looks fine! I can't believe she survived 2 nights out alone and didn't come out to eat or drink at all yesterday! Just blew me away! I had to call my neighbor just to make sure it wasn't one of hers!!! (She had bought 2 BCMs from me when I got them...her Roo already got it by the hawk and is only left with 1 BCM hen)

Wow ellymay! Is there anywhere she could have gotten cuddled into? That is so crazy, does she have a name? You could call her lucky cluck, survivor, rebel, ect...

I know its crazy! Well...I walked all over looking for her calling for her..nope no name...I call them all girls! lol I have tons of english ivy and a big line of fur trees and woods..and decks but I looked every where! Took a flash light out Sat night when I realized she wasn't around...looked under the deck and every where I could think of. Then out on and off all day yesterday calling out, walked the woods...She's done that before when we had a dog attack but she showed her face around 10am the next morning when I let the older girls out. Took her a bit but she showed up. That's why I really thought she'd been snatched up since she didn't come out of hiding on Sunday! Just soooo glad she's ok! I hate finding one killed but I think I hate it more when they're just Poof..Vanished!

Wow! All you guys with the hawks!!! I have 2 that hang around my place and scope the field but haven't seen them try to get a chicken yet. But I'm sure I couldn't let my Bantys free. I haven't seen my LF even notice when they fly over. My BO is a big boy not sure if that'd help or not! Maybe this is why chicken math could be a good thing!!

Gotta find some reason for it!
