INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I just hatches my first showgirl chick. I didn't even know my boy was breeding any of my girls yet, I guess he is but he is very shy about it. Just had to share.

Unfortunately no plywood is cheap right now in stores. OSB is currently at around $14 sheet the last checked. Several months ago it was less than $8 per sheet. 1/2" thick plywood is around $14.50 for the cheapest quality when I last bought it a month or two ago.

Check Craigslist or a habitat for humanity restore store if you have one in your area
wow what another think i can use instead of plywood for the coop walls? anything better and/or cheeper??

Brad has a great idea. Habitat usually has all sorts of things you could use affordably. Think doors and cabinets. I would check out etsy for ideas as well. Good luck!

Adorable! I just love naked necks and showgirls!

I didn't really like them until I saw one in person. I met another byc'er in my area and bought 4 silkies from him last year and this year I traded him a black pullet for 1 of his blue showgirl roos. So glad I traded for him now. Thanks Joe.

I am already using Firefox. I even installed google chrome and it does the same thing
I was having some issues this morning. I reset my computer back a few days and all is well.
is there a way to wash them and what toxin can spill at a grocery store???
as for the what, think cleaners, bleach, bug killers, rat killer, over the counter liquid meds.
That said I would use pallets and have even started plans for a future pallet coop. Paint and primer are good sealers and long as you maintain them.

Another thread had a horse trailer that was converted to a coop with separate pens for hatching, and brooding.
Since you are thinking of breeding you will want to google breeding pens as well as how to determine which birds are best for breeding. As for a tractor and the dog crates, the birds will need shelter from rain so a tarp or covering. And of course come cold weather you may not be able to use a tarp covered tractor.
You may be able to contact a metal shed company and see how much it would cost to have them build you a custom shed that works as the outer shell for your coop. So extras would be windows and a chicken door opening that was low but off the ground to allow for a deep litter. But you would then still need to add roosts and nesting boxes as well as breading pens, and a brooder area. you might even want a small area in case a hen goes broody and you want her to raise chicks.
If you are going to put a decent amount of money into the coop, you may also want to make it large enough for you flock to grow some as it seems like you enjoy getting more birds.

Saw on this website on OLD threads where some people use old school buses shipping containers (like stacked on ships on the ocean or big construction sites the look like simi trailers without the axles) old u haul type truck beds or retired delivery type trucks. also I saw where someone had made a homemade version of a special pry bar to tear pallets apart with little effort that he borrowed the idea from an existing product.
