INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I keep eyeballing one at the local TSC. I can't believe its still there! The silkies are always the first to sell out of the bantam assortments.

I got one brad. I asked the silkie thread what it was, and they said "smutt". Lol
Well, wasn't that nice of them...

If you want a fluffy little hairball that will lay the occasional egg, there is nothing wrong with a hatchery silkie (as long as it is a hen.. roos don't lay eggs.

If you want a bird to take to the shows and bring home the ribbons, you probably won't find it at TSC. That's when you look for private breeders.

But not everybody cares if their birds meet the Standard for that breed.

I truly don't think their looks affect their personalities and that's one of the best parts of any chicken.

Of course this is just my opinions, formed in over 25 years of chicken keeping, with the last 5 focused on "Show Quality".

will they sell you just one if it is the only one left?
unfortunately no. All I'd want is the silkie and possibly 2 other banties that maybe porcelain d'uccles. I don't like their 6 chick minimum :(

I got one brad. I asked the silkie thread what kind it was, and they said "smutt". Lol

Lol, it amazes me how rude some of the breed threads are. I might call them tomorrow and see if they still have it.

other than number of toes what are the identifying features at that age?  I have 8 that I am trying to figure out what they are.
are you asking how to identify a silkie? If so, number of toes, other than feathers everything else is black, fluffy, etc

Tomorrow is the day! Will have my baby girl in my arms here real soon! Oh and I found 4 black white crested polish hens, black banty, and another silkie hen and a Grey Toulouse goose Girl is needing to rehome them. So Im taking advantage if it!!!
