INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

It'd be worth a try!! And I like the share the eggs idea with the neighbor. Someone else on here was going to have the same problem and someone suggested all kinds of info on doing a presentation and offering current info and stuff. Wait for more feed back here!!
strssedmom!! That is horrible. danand may have been referring to this conversation (below--posts 4215 & 4216) about a new member who has to have her coop approved by a Neighborhood Association. Kiniska had good advice about the coop and I just pointed out some comparisons to other outdoor noise in case the NA brought up noise as an issue.

Your neighbor might be concerned about smell. Everyday, I clean the two litter boxes under the perch. Unless it is freezing, we hose down the area outside of the coop and our deck at least twice a day. I've read other tips online about using fragrant landscape plantings and natural deodorizers, but we haven't had any odor problems with five hens.

My first post in BYC! I'm Deanna. I'm from Rochester, indiana, which is about 90 minutes north of Indy. I don't have any chickens yet, but hopefully we will this weekend after a local swap meet. I just built our coop today, big enough for about 4 hens. We are very excited, but its all still new to us. :)

Congrats to Cluck and wife!!! Finally got that baby here!!!:D

Strrsdmom- see I knew someone would know the right conversation!! I guess it'd be nice to know if that person got it passed though?

Great to see you here Deanna! A few quick tips, if you have not gotten animals from a swap meet before just be aware they can be a breeding ground for parasites and illness. Check out some of the threads about diseases so you know what to look for. Good luck and have fun!

I don't even know who to talk to.  I am frustrated.  I would love any information anyone can share.  I would love to keep them all, but keeping just the kids birds would be GREAT.

It is all going to come down to what type of relationship you have with your neighbors. If you can have a nice chat over a cup of coffee you can probably keep the kids favorites. Maybe 5 hens or so. Find out why she is uncomfortable with them being there and work out solutions to those issues. Ask her if she would be willing to give you a chance to prove chickens can be good neighbors and make sure she has your phone number and knows you care about her home and space as well as your own. I have always taken the time to get to know my nieghbors. It really helps if situations ever do arise. Good luck!

Oh, Ilove the red one kinsika! I have done the same thing with reclaimed materials... more creative that way. I like the window in the door too. I like to look in the re-use area of our land fill. A good day when they have wood!

My husband calls me the scrounge bug. Where I work there is so much waste. Skids that were only used once, plastic and wood. Crates equipment comes in. Mouse chow. I am going to check and see if I can ferment the chow and mix it with regular feed for my chickens. Giant 4x4x4foot tyvec sacks bedding comes in. Huge plastic detergent containers with metal frames around them. The list goes on! It is a veritable treasure trove.
