INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Danand, I have five dogs and a fenced in yard. It's ridiculous that someone can't keep their animals on their property.  It's not hard to do, usually.
Agreed! I have 3 dogs and fenced in yard for them. When I'm not home, mine are not outside. I don't trust them nor other people. They are safe in the house, usually destroying a remote, socks, pancake mix, etc. lol. Ou can definitely tell when the weather has been crappy and they haven't gotten any exercise lol!

Chicks in brooder still clicking when breathing. Still taking Duramycin & Probios. Trying hard to make everyone not touch them & wash hands if they do so it doesn't spread to the other flocks. Frustrating.

Hey everybody! I need to vent!!!

. I got home to feathers alllllllll over my driveway and a note in my door!! My neighbor across the road saw the other neighbors dog mauling one of my chickens!!! She chased it off and call the sheriff!! So I'm missing 2 adult, laying Buff Orrpingtons!! And my buff O is tail-less!!!! I am just furious!!! I just had a conversation with the dogs owner 2 weeks ago that he better keep his dogs off my property!! He was unsympathetic!!! So now I've called the sheriff and told them I'm want to charge him with loss of livestock and anything else I can!!! So then... I called the neighbor and told him that I had called the sheriff and that he needed to look for my chickens because I didn't want them to suffer and had a right to know if they were dead!!! And sort of a funny note, the dogs I told him to keep off my property were not the ones that did it. He had more in his backyard! Boxers!! And they've tried to get into my Millies . When I was giving them their afternoon treat I noticed lg dog prints and now it's muddy around their pen!! Thanks for letting me vent! I knew I would some day lose some but I thought it would be coyotes or hawks!

UGH I am sooo sorry!

This is one of my biggest peeves too. I lost a bottle baby goat to stray dogs. Senseless, horrible waste

I hope you sue them, make them pay for the loss, and your heartache!

Thanks everybody! My husband is out of the country for work and when I told him he was furious too!! Doesn't make it any better that the sheriff and the neighbor with the dog isn't really worried!! And yes I am furious too!! Those were my only 2 BO hens. And the roo is a BO. He has been defrocked so to speak!! And yes we keep "things" ready for just such an occurrence but of course I want home!! Now I'll have to keep them locked up unless I'm out with them!! LGD is sounding better by the day!!
Tell the neignbor that according to state law if you see his dog attaching your birds you can shoot to kill, and if he wants his dogs alive he'd better keep them off your proerty, and small claims court suit should be filed (I'd love to see you both on peoples court or judge judy)....

Daand- sorry to hear about the losses. If you have any plans in the next month or so to come up north, I'd be happy to give you some more BO/LCO. Obviously it won't replace the ones you lost, but you are welcome to some.

AATH- that is horrible about your son. I am a HUGE dog fan (I have a bouvier des Flandres, min pin, and French bulldog). However, I do not fall for the "blame the deed, not the breed" BS. I don't think bully type dogs, German shepherds, rotts, ect should be banned. I think people need to have a test and permit to own those breeds. I can not comprehend how people don't see that aggression/protection is bred into these dogs. My bouvier has NEVER been thought how to herd. However at the dog park, she will herd the other dogs, in the house herd the cat. Herding has been breed into this breed. Pointers instinctively now how to point, retrievers to retrieve. It doesn't matter if its a cow, dog, cat, human, a bouvier will herd regardless. Same as a retriever retrieving a stick, duck, ball, etc. it doesn't care what it's retrieving. So why are pit bulls the ONLY breed that do not follow instinct and attack? Why are they the only breed able to differentiate between what it's supposed to attack and what it's not?

I know thisis a very touchy subject and as a dog lover, I hate to see ay breed become banned and extinct. I love the diversity of dogs. However something has to be done about making sure the right breed is put with the correct household. I get nervous with my min pin when my nieces and nephews are around. She has never bite, but she is very dominate. If I can't watch her while younger kids are at my house, she is kenneled. She knows not to bite, but I not risking the kids getting injured. And if any of my dogs bite, they will be euthanized. Period.

WELL SAID.

Haha! Mine are going through that now. Not tearing up stuff so much as OCD about birds and squirrels and light reflections, then bickering with each other over said obsessions. I don't leave mine out when I'm not home either. I'm a bit over protective I guess,

I didn't forget about you Cluck. I figured you were still up for the bantams. I'm just not sure which ones are roos yet. Except for a couple. The wyandotte I'm worried about because he is so sweet and very pretty, but being a standard size bird I don't want him to end up as someones dinner. So I want to find a home for him.

Yea i totally understand.
